SUN questionnaire: interpretation of results

To assess the state of health, activity and mood, a special questionnaire was developed. It was created by employees of the First Moscow Medical Institute. I. M. Sechenov. And more specifically, in 1973 the SAN questionnaire was developed by VA Doskin, NA Lavrentieva, VB Sharai, and MP Miroshnikov. The peculiarities of this testing are described in the article.

How the questionnaire is used

The test is in demand for assessing the mental state. At the same time, it reflects the state of health of not only patients of medical institutions, but also of healthy people. The research is aimed at determining biological rhythms. They are represented by periodically recurring changes in features, strength of phenomena and processes of a biological nature. This also applies to individual features that reflect psychophysiological functions.

The passage of testing is the correlation of the state with psychological characteristics. The SAN questionnaire is very convenient to use. It is presented in the form of a scale with indices (3 2 1 0 1 2 3). The subject is offered 30 pairs of words, for which the opposite meaning is characteristic. The task is to select and circle a 1 digit on each scale. The selected value should most accurately reflect the condition of the person as it is at the time of the test.

Components of the questionnaire

Using the form, you can analyze your state of health at the present time. The bottom line is that the internal state is always formed from several characteristics.

The SUN questionnaire reveals the following features:

  1. Feeling, consisting of strength, fatigue and health.
  2. Activity - from the mobility, the speed of the flow of functions.
  3. The mood formed by the characteristics of the emotional state.

It is these characteristics that show how the respondent feels at a given moment in time. Through testing, the overall health, mobility, and emotional background become clear.

Structure of the test

The SUN questionnaire is made up of 30 pairs of opposite qualities that characterize well-being. The answers to them help to understand yourself, reflecting the measure of the manifestation of each characteristic at a given moment in time. When passing the test, you need to describe your condition as accurately as possible. To do this, in each of the above pairs, you need to select a feature with which you can display the state at a given time. To this end, you must choose a figure that best matches the sensations at a given time.

Each of the scales has an average score of 4. This is the way the SAN questionnaire is designed. Feeling, activity, mood are defined as favorable, when the score exceeds 4 points. But if the value is smaller, then one can not judge a good attitude to what is happening at this point in time. For normal assessments of the state, the range is 5.0-5.5 points.

State of health

One of the features to be analyzed is how an individual feels. It is a combination of subjective sensations. Thus, the physiological and psychological comfort is revealed. The direction of feelings and thoughts is also determined if you try the SUN questionnaire in action.

Interpretation of the results indicates that the state of health is represented by some generalizing characteristic. It can be cheerfulness, malaise and others. Such emotions can cause discomfort in different parts of the body.

Activity

Activity is a general characteristic of living beings. At the same time, its own dynamics consists in transforming or maintaining vital relationships with external stimuli. This is accompanied by a certain division. It is represented by the types of activity:

  1. Chemical.
  2. The activity of consciousness.
  3. Physical, nervous, psychic activity.
  4. Groups.
  5. Personality.
  6. Of the Society.

Activity is directly related to how the forecasting of the development of events takes place. This applies to the environment itself, as well as the position of the living organism in it.

In addition, it is the sphere of manifestation of temperament. It is determined by the breadth of human interaction and the environment (social and physical). This parameter determines the state of health that corresponds to the characteristics:

  1. Inertness.
  2. Passivity.
  3. Initiative.
  4. Calm down.
  5. The swiftness.
  6. Activity.

Mood

This quality is represented by long-term states for which stability is characteristic. This is how the SAN questionnaire works. Interpretation involves evaluating the emotional background characterizing a depressed or upbeat mood. Emotional background is a reaction to the consequences of certain events. This also applies to their implications for common expectations, life plans and interests.

In this case, a clear identification of the state is important. It can be boredom or delight, joy. Unlike sensations, the mood is directed to one or another object. It causes some reason, a reason. At the same time, it is important to have an emotional response to any impact.

How data is processed

The results of the SUN questionnaire are easy to calculate. Index 3 should be chosen in case of unsatisfactory state of health, the lowest activity and very bad mood. It corresponds to 1 point.

It is followed by index 2, which corresponds to the same number of points. A 1 is taken for 3 points and so on. The poles of the scale undergo constant changes. Index 3 from the opposite side becomes equal to 7 points. For positive states, high values are characteristic, and for negative states, the lowest values are. On the given points it is necessary to calculate the arithmetic mean. This should be done in general, as well as separately, depending on the activity, mood and well-being.

Such a test is very effective and simple. It is especially convenient to take it online, each time filling a clean field. Although you can use the printout and pen to reveal the features of your well-being. It can be conducted by a professional or in order to satisfy personal interest.
