Early in the morning a servant named Lisa knocks in the bedroom to her young lady. But Sophia does not immediately respond, because the night she talked with her lover, Molchanin, who is the secretary of her father, Pavel Afanasevich Famusov. Next to Lisa appears Famusov, who begins to flirt with her, but, fearing that he will notice, disappears. Molchanin, coming out of Sophia, encounters him, and Famusov is wondering what he was doing in his daughter's bedroom at such an early hour.

Staying with her daughter Lisa, Sophia remembers the details of last night. Lisa reminds the girl of her past hobby, Alexander Chatsky. Sophia says that he was just her childhood friend, and, comparing him with Molchanin, finds the latter a lot of positive qualities.

Soon appears Chatsky. He asks Sophia about Moscow and in the conversation he unintentionally responds unflatteringly about Molchanin. Sophia is indignant. On the same day after dinner Chatsky comes to Famusov and asks about Sophia. FAMUSOV is on guard: "Does he really mark the bridegrooms?". At this moment, Colonel Skalozubov comes, whom Famusov considers a worthy candidate for his daughter's hand. Chatsky and Skalozubov feel dislike for each other. After a while, Sophia resorted with a cry of "Fallen!" He was killed! ". It turns out that Molchanin fell from the horse. Soon is Molchanin and reassures those present: everything is fine with him. Chatsky reflects on why Sophia was so alarmed by the fall of Molchanin.

Left alone with his beloved, Sophia consults about his health, but he is concerned that someone could have suspected that they were together. CHATSKY reflects on who is beloved Sophia. And he does not believe that this might be this insignificant person, worshiping power - Molchanin.

Summary of Griboyedov's "Woe from Wit"

In the evening, guests come to Famusov. One of the guests, the powerful old Khlestov, shows interest in Molchanin, because he praised her dog. Chatsky immediately begins to be ironic about this.

When the guests begin to disperse to Molchanin, Lisa is like and says that the lady is waiting for him. But he immediately tells her that he is with Sophia in order to strengthen his position, but in fact he loves Lisa. This is heard by Sophia and Chatsky, who stood behind the column. Sophia asks Molchanin to leave their house. The servants headed by Famusov run to the noise. He is indignant and threatens to send his daughter to the Saratov wilderness, and Lisa to the housekeeper. Chatsky laughs at his own blindness, over the adherents of Famusov, over Sofya herself. He forever leaves his former home. Famusov is concerned only with the fact that Princess Marya Alexeyevna will tell about this.
