Simulation of the conical skirt: pattern, drawing and features

Recently, the proverb "Everything new is a well forgotten old" is becoming more and more relevant. Designers are increasingly putting on display clothes that were popular in the 70's, 80's and 90's of the last century, complementing it with a combination with new trends. Therefore, now women of fashion can afford to show their imagination as much as possible. An unusual combination of fabrics and styles, the most daring combining of different details of clothes - all this will look appropriate in the streets of the modern city. Particularly advantageous will look like things of your own design, in bow, even if partially sewn by you, you definitely will not get lost in the crowd.

To help even the most inexperienced seamstresses to translate their dreams and ideas into reality, we will try to paint as clearly as possible how to build a pattern, make measurements of the figure, cut and sew the wardrobe piece you conceived. In this article you will find a detailed master-class on creating a conical skirt.

Conical skirt - what is it and what to wear it with?

So, let's figure out all the pros and cons of this type of clothing. Conic can be called any skirt, which has the shape of a truncated cone, that is, its pattern is part or whole of the circle. This form presupposes some pecking, which perfectly conceals the shortcomings and emphasizes the merits of the figure.
Conical skirts are divided into three main types:

  • First of all, we, of course, mention the favorite sun skirt. The open but not sewn "sun" has the shape of a circle with a hole for the waist or hips in the middle. This cut makes the skirt unusually lush. This model is suitable for women of all sexes who have absolutely any figure, you just need to choose the right material and determine the length.
  • Another model is the skirt of a half-sun. As you guessed it, in the "disassembled" form the model represents a half circle with a hole. This style will also suit ladies with any figure.
  • The skirt bell is the third option. It is a thing of two quarters of a circle sewn together. This skirt is often made of dense fabric. This cut has a smaller volume, which makes the thighs more rounded. So this style is not always appropriate to look at the owners of magnificent forms.

On the refined girls-thin, it will look great and maxi, and mini. However, designers offer those who have the size of M or S, pay attention to the mini of dense fabrics, which will give extra volume to the hips and puffiness of the skirt. Combine the skirt that is above the knee in the palm-and-a-half, with tops, blouse with a basque, sweaters, shirts in a man's style and tops-bustier.

For pyshechek suits maxi or midi, reaching a minimum to the middle of the knee. Combine it with a blouse with a scent, a shirt in a masculine style or a little loose jacket, emphasizing the waist strap or belt skirt.

Materials and Tools

To create this model you will need:

  • A paper on which you will build a pattern of a conical skirt (for example, graph paper). If you are not new to sewing, then you can draw a drawing directly on the fabric, but inexperienced craftsmen will be more reliable in outlining the scheme made on the draft version.
  • A pencil for drawing a sketch on paper.
  • Chalk for transferring the pattern of the product to the fabric.
  • Sharp scissors for cutting (the tailors are best suited).
  • Tail pins to fix the paper pattern to the fabric.
  • Actually cloth.
  • Threads for color contrasting with fabric.
  • Threads in the color of the fabric for the white tailoring.
  • Sewing machine.
  • Lightning, buttons (if required by the model).
  • Decorative elements (optional).

Removing measurements

To start designing a conical skirt, you need to take the following measurements:

  • St - half of the waist circumference.

The thinnest place of the torso is measured, and then it is divided in half.

  • Di - the length of the product (in this case, the skirt).

Measured from the waist or hips (depends on what kind of skirt will be planted, to the place where the product will end).

  • Sat - half of the hips.

Measured at the most prominent point of the hips, the result is divided in half.

  • Дтб - length from a waist up to hips (in case at you femurs below standard).

Measures the distance from the thinnest part of the torso to the most protruding point of the waist (strictly perpendicular to the floor).

  • Fri - an increase to half the waist circumference.
  • Pb - an increase to half of the hips.

Drawing a sketch of a conical skirt

In order not to spoil the fabric, we suggest to build a pattern on paper, and after you are convinced of the correctness of the constructions, you can transfer the result to the material from which you plan to sew. An example of the construction of the drawing will be a conic skirt half-sun.

  • First, draw a horizontal line on top of your sheet.
  • Find the middle of the line drawn by you, put a point there, mark it with the letter A and draw a perpendicular of an arbitrary length down from it.
  • Now find the waist on your skirt, for this, set aside from point A on both sides and down the distance you get after calculating the following formula: St: 4 + 2. The resulting points are designated by the letters L, B, the bottom points by T.
  • Connect these points in a semicircle.
  • From the points L, B (to the sides) and the points T (down), the distance equal to De is plotted, the resulting points are N, C, the bottom points are G.
  • Connect them in a semicircle.

Modeling of the conic skirt of the half-sun is completed. By the way, if you want to get the skirt of the sun, you can use this pattern, for this, when folding, fold the fabric in half, attach the pattern straight to the fold and draw on the fabric. Cut out both layers of fabric according to the pattern and spread out the resulting detail, the pattern of the conical skirt is the sun - in front of you.

Preparation of tissue

To prevent the product from losing its original appearance after the first wash, some manipulations must be performed before use with the fabric.

  • First of all, cut off a small piece of cloth and soak it in a white saucer in boiling water for half an hour. See if the water has stained. This is necessary in order to check whether the material is shedding.
  • For 2-4 hours, soak all the cloth in hot or cool water. If you are sewing from a dense fabric, then, spreading it on a flat surface, moisten with a spray gun. So you can avoid shrinkage when washing a finished conical skirt.
  • Dry the fabric, neatly placing it in a vertical position. So the material does not stretch.
  • Iron fabric through gauze or a special piece of thin cotton fabric.

All of the above points must be met before you make a sketch of the conical skirt.

Open the skirts

  • Cut out the scheme you outlined earlier along the lines N, G, C and N, L, T, B, C.
  • Transfer the pattern to the fabric.
  • Step back from the drawn lines of 1 centimeter (allowance for the seam) and cut out the resulting pattern.

Sewing of skirts

To begin with, we advise you to make a belt. For a belt 5 cm wide you will need a strip of fabric of the same color as the skirt, 12 cm wide and a length of St X 2 + 5 cm.

  • From the wrong side, glue the entire strip of fabric with adhesive tape, which you cut off for the belt.
  • Sew edges along the length of the belt with an overlock or with a zigzag stitch on the inside.
  • On the sides of the edge of the belt should be stuck, laying on the allowance of 1 centimeter from the initial length.

The belt is ready, now you can proceed directly to the very tailoring of the conical skirt.

  • From the semicircle, which on the pattern indicates the waist, glue a glue tape about the size of your zipper + 2 cm on each side.
  • Between each other, after having processed the edges, sew upwards from the bottom, connecting the waist half-circle and the semicircle of the bottom, not reaching the waist line with the amount of centimeters your lightning makes.
  • Now you can sew a secret zipper.
  • Iron the resulting back seam.
  • We bend from below an equal on all sides the amount of fabric and process the bottom with an overlock, a machine or by hand.

To the skirt we sew the belt

  • Set aside from the edge of the belt 3 cm and find the middle of the remaining length.
  • Attach the middle of the belt to the middle of the skirt.
  • Sew a belt with a skirt, folding them with facings.
  • On the left three centimeters of the belt we make a loop equal to the diameter of the button + 2 millimeters.
  • On the right side we sew the button.

So our master class on sewing a conical skirt came to an end.
