Seaport of Zarubino

The port of Zarubino (Primorsky Krai) is a dynamically developing sea transport hub, designed to accelerate and simplify trade with the Far Eastern partners. Thanks to the construction of a straight railway line connecting Zarubino and Hunchun City, the port can become a "sea gate" for the northeast of China.

Gateway to Russia

The unique position of the Primorsky Territory, the proximity of "industrial tigers" - China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea - allowed the region to become the eastern gate of the Russian Federation. The Sea of Japan, like a giant bridge, connects powerful neighbors in the economic plan.

Despite the existence of existing large port agglomerations in Vladivostok, Nakhodka and other cities, it was decided to build the port of Zarubino as close as possible to the transport arteries of the partner countries. Only a few tens of kilometers are industrial zones of China, Korea, and a little further - Japan. The port is intended to become the strategic center of the international transport corridor "Primorye".

History of creation

The port of Zarubino is not being built in an empty place. In 1972 the fishing port of the "Trinity" was laid here. In the 80's it was already a stable complex, an important promising object of the Khasan district. With the collapse of the USSR and the acceleration of sea trade, the port was transformed from a fishing port into a commercial port.

In the 2000s, it was decided to reformat, update the worn out infrastructure. Completing new terminals, modernizing logistics, repairing transport routes. In fact, Zarubino becomes a new port with rethought goals and objectives.

Strategic position

The port of Zarubino is located in the most southwestern part of Primorsky Krai, on the shores of the Trinity Bay. It is like a wheel that connects the road-spokes from Primorye, the Chinese province of Jilin and North Korea at one point. A convenient water area allows vessels of different tonnage and sizes to enter. Distances to industrial centers:

  • To Vladivostok (Russia) - 200 km;
  • To Hunchun (PRC) - 70 km;
  • To Songbong (DPRK) - 65 km.

Zarubino is connected to the checkpoints of Makhalino, Kraskino, Khasan.

Description

The port of Zarubino (Primorsky Krai), whose photo you see in the article, offers a number of attractive conditions for cargo transshipment. Thanks to the favorable topography of the seabed, the coastline and the geographical location of the Trinity Bay in winter, it practically does not freeze. In stormy weather, it is a safe haven for ships, providing natural wind protection without erecting hydraulic structures.

Year-round navigation in the water area without icebreaking significantly saves loading / unloading time and reduces port costs. Boats with an 8-meter draft up to 172 meters can approach the berths.

In 2000, a passenger international terminal with an area of 2,600 m 2 was commissioned. The cargo-passenger ferry international line connecting Zarubino and the South Korean city of Sokcho has been established. By the way, the port has a multi-purpose permanent cargo and cargo crossing point.

Characteristics

The port of Zarubino operates round the clock. It provides services to replenish fuel stocks, take oily and sewage from ships, offer fresh water, provisions. Minor repairs are carried out, diving inspection of hulls of ships.

The work of 11 berths has been announced, but in fact 7 large berths with a total length of 840 m operate. The mooring depths are 7.5-9.5 m. The maximum dimensions of vessels serviced directly from the sea terminal are 172 x 23 x 8 m. Passengers and various loads are serviced Including the 4th class of danger.

Given the intensive import of Korean and Japanese cars, the port has a storage area, where 4500 cars can be stored at the same time. There are also sites:

Fishing port

The Zarubinsky base of the fleet serving fishing vessels has two berths with a total length of 191 m with depths of 6-9 m. The maximum dimensions of trawlers are 100 x 15 x 5.5 m.

In 2012, a large refrigeration complex with a storage temperature of -25 degrees was reconstructed. It is capable of simultaneously receiving and storing 12,000 tons of seafood. The base accepts and stores aquatic bioresources both fresh and processed, facilitates their transportation and sale.

Problems and prospects

The port of Zarubino is in the stage of formation and optimization of logistical routes. With the maximum possible turnover of 1.2 million tons, the practical implementation is still less than expected. Inclusion of the port in the list of territories of advanced development should promote dynamic growth.

The projects of construction of grain and container terminals are being implemented. According to the plans, by 2020 the grain turnover should be up to 10 million tons, and the total cargo turnover - 60 million tons. Special hopes for the project "Sea Silk Road". Chinese partners consider Zarubino to be a key node, designed to bring together businessmen from Primorye and China. And the construction of a narrow-gauge railway line according to Chinese standards should facilitate the fastest delivery of cargo from Hunchun to the port of Zarubino.
