Saratov State Agrarian University: general information

The Volga region was always known as the center of agriculture, famous for its rich harvests and the development of agrarian science. To solve the tasks of the agricultural sector in this region, an educational center was created - the Saratov State Agrarian University, capable of providing agrocomplexes and the processing industry with personnel.

History of Education

Saratov State Agrarian University named after Vavilov dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, namely, with the opening of the Higher Courses in 1913, headed by Alexander Ivanovich Skvortsov. The first recruited course consisted of a little more than a hundred people, mostly from wealthy classes.

After the revolution, in 1918, an agricultural institute was established on the basis of the courses, which actively recruited students, and then was attached to the classical Saratov university.

In 1923, the reclamation faculty was opened, on which the skills of forest and agro-meliorative work were developed. In 1930, the formation of a separate veterinary institute was completed. Thus, by the end of the twentieth century, Saratov had two higher educational institutions: the Academy of Veterinary Medicine and the Institute of Agricultural Machinery.

In 1997, the veterinary academy joined the agricultural institute, which resulted in the unification of universities. The Saratov State Agrarian University has become an important center for the preparation of standards and testing of the quality of nutrition, one of the largest scientific entities occupying an honorary place in the rating of agricultural educational institutions. The first rector of the new institution was Dvorkin B.Z.

The faculties of the University carry out five main activities:

1. Training of personnel for the development of agribusiness (training in accounting, auditing, foreign languages, foreign economic activity, marketing, organization of production in the agro-industrial complex, etc.) is carried out by the Faculty of Economics and Business.
2. Training of specialists in agro-industrial engineering (studying engineering physics, designing electrical equipment, rules for water use, environmental engineering, land improvement, landscape construction, heat supply, etc. - Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Engineering).
3. Training in agronomic professions (botany, chemistry, plant growing, genetics, etc. - agronomic faculty.
4. Training of specialists in the field of veterinary medicine, biotechnology, and food manufacturing technology (training of doctors for the treatment of diseases of small and large animals, sanitary inspectors, microbiologists and other professionals - the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine).

Territorial divisions

Saratov State Agrarian University has the following territorial subdivisions:

1. The Korolkov Garden, based on the place of the garden of the landowner Korolkov in 1926 and transferred to the ownership of the University in 1945, in its spacious plots, various crops and tree seedlings are grown, experiments on mechanization of agriculture, etc., are being carried out.
2. Veterinary Hospital, equipped with modern equipment, which has three operating units. In the hospital you can consult with narrow specialists - cardiologists, dentists, and diagnose the disease, operate a sick animal or even chimp a pet, thereby not letting it get lost.
