Ryazan State Regional Drama Theater: repertoire, troupe, reviews

The Ryazan State Regional Drama Theater has existed for more than two hundred years. He belongs to the category of the oldest in our country. Today in his repertoire you can see performances not only for the adult audience, but also children's fairy tales.

About the theater

At the end of the 20th century, its 200th anniversary was marked by the Ryazan State Regional Drama Theater. Its history began in 1787.

Initially, the theater was located in a wooden building and was called the "Opera House". The troupe was then played by serfs and freedmen boys and girls. In the 19th century, stationary theaters were rare, and the Ryazanian belonged precisely to this category. His repertoire included classical pieces: Hamlet, Othello, Bakhchisarai Fountain and so on. In 1836, the theater presented to the audience performances based on the works of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and A.N. Ostrovsky.

"Opera House" changed its status and name. In 1962 it became a city drama theater. During this period, the city on tour came the great artists: M. Ermolova, M. Schepkin, F.I. Shalyapin, K.S. Stanislavsky, M. Petipa and others.

At the end of the 19th century, the Ryazan drama became the place where new directions were staged, impregnated with progressive ideas. A permanent troupe was formed in 1935. The theater has since gained a new status. The Ryazan state regional theater of drama has found a new name . Ryazan thanks to him has become one of the centers of culture in our country.

During the war the theater performed in hospitals, in military units and on the front lines. After the war, he set himself the task of his performances to educate in the audience of human and civil qualities.

In 1994, the Ryazan drama was headed by Zhanna Vinogradova. Thanks to her, the repertoire was updated. Recently the drama theater opened the Small Stage. This room is designed for 65 seats.

The Museum

Before the performances begin and during the intermission the Ryazan State Regional Drama Theater invites spectators to visit their museum. It is on the third floor. It was opened in the late 20th century. Its creation was timed to celebrate the 200th birthday of the theater.

Among the exhibits are posters, photographs and programs of different years. The exposition tells about the history of the theater, actors and directors who worked here at different times. In the windows there are costumes, as well as props from different productions. In addition, the museum presents awards, theater diplomas and guest souvenirs.
