Russian sarafans. Their history and types

Russian sarafans gained wide popularity in Russia in the 17th-17th centuries. Previously, they were also considered an integral part of the wardrobe, even in men. It was often possible to meet a husband and wife, dressed in sarafans. However, for a long time they belonged to the clothes of commoners and only during the reign of Catherine II became a national dress for women for all classes. What did Russian sarafans sew?

Several types of fabrics were used for sewing:
