Russian melodrama (single-episode) brought to the throne the queen of the screen Vera Cold

Melodrama was first a literary and dramatic genre and enjoyed great popularity with the public. When the cinema arose, at the beginning of the century, in the 1900s, the first melodramas were also removed by the French. They brought a sharp intrigue to the cinema, virtue and villainy were contrasted in them vividly, contrastingly. And how beautiful the heroines of the silent melodramas suffered! Dark shadows around the eyes, excruciating delicate fine faces inspired by pain ... Zlodeev could also be recognized immediately by unpleasant grimaces. As a result, the good morally triumphed, and the evil was always intelligibly punished.

Silent Russian melodrama (single-sided) "Life for Life", filmed in 1916 by Eugene Bauer, is remarkable for the fact that she starred Vera Cold in one of the main roles. This film was destined to become one of the most successful in the artistic career of the actress. After demonstrating this melodrama on the screen, Vera acquired the title of queen of the screen and became the first star of Russian silent cinema.

Bauer was a director of the world scale. The above-mentioned Russian melodrama (single-episode) was created by him at a very high level and is in no way inferior to the tapes shot in the Scandinavian countries and in America during the same period. He made a big contribution to the creation of a special cinema language, his director's style was distinguished by a special style, it had symbolism, depth and refinement.

Russian melodrama (single-episode) about sisters-rivals is based on the novel by the French writer Georges Ona. The story told in the film concerns the problems of the rich Khromov family, owning millions. The widow has two daughters: her own - charming, but frivolous Musya (the great actress MKhAT Lydia Koreneva) and the waiting room - Nata (already known, but not the famous Vera Kholodnaya). Both are extradited, in love with the player and kutila Prince Bartinsky, although the beautiful Nate is married to the adorable and reasonable Jurov, a successful entrepreneur. He is an ideal positive character.

Silent Russian melodrama (single-episode) was distinguished by the clearness and immutability of the role of actors. Obligatory was the presence in the script of the ideal hero, suffering heroine and treacherous villain.

The prince swears to Nate in love, but she is not able to pay off his debts and ensure a further comfortable existence. Zhurov and Bartinsky conclude a secret agreement. Kommersant promises to arrange the marriage of the prince with the heiress of millions of Muses in exchange for his marriage to Nata.

A double wedding is Bauer's superbly constructed key stage. This is the "heart" of the whole film, now the viewer can feel the dramatic plot. The omens are alarming.

In the hall next to the dance floor suffering Nata, she turns away from the groom and does not want to dance with him. Left alone, wringing his hands, he throws up his head in silent prayer, as if asking for advice and intercession from the higher powers, chilly wraps himself in a veil. Nata admits Khromova in her feelings for Vladimir Bartinsky and says that they are mutual, and on Musa he marries for money. Mother asks her to remain silent, so as not to overshadow Musi's happiness. The snow-white bridal veil of the bridegroom wraps around Nata's figure, then tears and winds in the wind as a symbol of her grief and a broken hope for happiness.

At the dawn of the twentieth century, Russia produced a film-melodrama in a huge amount, they were shot by film factories for three weeks. Faith was in demand. The images of sad lyric heroines created by her have always been the victims of deceitful outrageous scoundrels. Her sincere manner of playing has always found a response in the hearts of the sentimental public. In the film about sisters-rivals Vera Kholodnaya, not having acting education, became more popular with the public and outstripped professional actress and beauty Lydia Koreneva.

On a world scale, the lyrical genre is one of the most popular among the public, especially in its beautiful half. In the domestic rental of film-melodrama, Russians are also loved by spectators, they are only a little behind the genre-leader - the militant.
