Ruberoid: technical characteristics. Laying of ruberoid (photo)

Roll roofing roofing material, the technical characteristics of which allow the material to meet the highest operational requirements, has long been successfully used in the construction of a waterproofing roof layer. Simplicity of laying and further maintenance allows us to apply the construction product to private developers as well as to large construction companies.

Ruberoid: technical specifications

The criteria for assessing the quality of the material are the requirements of the roofing materials. It is waterproof, water absorption, frost resistance and heat resistance, ability to reflect ultraviolet rays and so on. Also important is the strength of the canvas, because the environment of use is often extremely aggressive, and the roof requires additional strength.

The ruberoid is made from several layers of light cardboard, impregnated with bituminous solution. The finished fabric on both sides is covered with a thin layer of refractory bitumen, which is then covered with a layer of powder, which is small shredded crumb, sand or mica, and the difference in grain size is reflected in the form of a letter designation when labeled. On the back side of the roofing material, a layer of limestone or talc is applied, which prevents the layers from sticking together when rolled into a roll.

Styling Features

As with similar bituminous materials, the roofing material must be laid on a dry and clean surface. One day before stacking, the roll is unwound and allowed to straighten. When using a conventional cardboard-based fabric, it is recommended to lay at least four layers, with the inner layers of the roofing carpet being made of double-edged rolls, and the top layer should be with a large coating. This method of laying is used to cover a flat roof without bends.

In the case of the application of a ruberoid with a polyethylene base, special bituminous mastics are used for its labeling. There are two types of mastic: "hot" and "cold". With the hot method, the mastic is preheated, and when cold, the mastic is used ready for use.

The surface of the substrate, on which the roofing material will be laid, must first be primed. The primer can be purchased already in ready-made form, which will save time, or be prepared by dissolving bitumen in gasoline or kerosene.

After the primer dries, a layer of mastic is applied to it and then the roofing material is laid in accordance with the overlap of 70-100 mm. The upper layers of the roofing carpet are displaced a third of the width of the canvas, and the last canvas is covered with a layer of mastic with further powdering with coarse sand or gravel.

Ruberoid as roofing material

The low cost of roofing material makes it possible to use it as a roofing material in low-budget construction, and the simplicity of laying makes it possible to manage low-skilled labor and a small number of workers.

  1. Carrying out the first stage of preparation for coating with a roofing material, it is necessary to build a sheathing. It is necessary to take into account the peculiarity of the material, namely its flexibility and elasticity. The distance between the boards of the crate should not be more than 10-15 cm.
  2. To prevent bending under rain and snow loads, it is recommended to cover the plywood with a layer of plywood.
  3. Depending on the angle of the roof, the number of layers can be reduced. For example, on the roof with a slope of 34-40 degrees, you can lay only two layers of roofing material.

Options for laying roofing felt on the roof

For roofing, the roofing material is most often used, the technical characteristics of which include coarse-grained and dusty sprinkling.

A simple method, which does not require special qualification, is the laying of ruberoid linens on the crate from the top down with an overlap of 20-30 cm through the ridge. In most cases, the length of the roll allows you to cover two roof slopes at once, without cutting the canvas into pieces. The roofing material supplied to the market with a coarse-grained powder is 10 meters long, and dust-laden - 15 meters, which allows you to choose the right type and size of the roll needed to cover a certain roof.

The second method is somewhat more complicated, it is the laying of sheets across the roof slope. The first sheet is stacked from below, taking into account a small margin for the bend, and the next sheet is offset from the previous one. The horse is covered with one sheet with a bend on both slopes of the roof.

The third method is a combination of the first and second. The ruberoid on the roof is laid with the first layer of longitudinal strips, and the next - cross.

At the same time, all layers are fixed with the help of metal strips or wooden strips pinned to the battens.

Waterproofing with ruberoid

When building foundations, a roofing felt covering for insulation is used quite often. It perfectly protects the socle of the building from the effects of moisture and dampness. The most common ruberoid is used to protect tape foundations, the upper surface of which is applied with a layer of mastic, and on top of this layer is laid the canvas. In this case, it is recommended to repeat this procedure several times to ensure the proper level of waterproofing. Surpluses are not cut off, but are set down as a continuation of vertical waterproofing.

It is worth noting that in the absence of direct sunlight, the service life of roofing paper significantly increases. That is why using it as a waterproofing foundation allows you to forget about the repeated procedure for many years.

Standard marking

The ruberoid is produced in accordance with GOST 10923-93, where the parameters and rules for marking are clearly stipulated.

The main dimensions of roofing felt are as follows:

  1. The length of the canvas is 15 meters.
  2. The width of the canvas is 1 meter.

On the roofing material technical specifications, brand and material of sprinkles (symbols) are applied directly to the roll. They are denoted by the following letters: К and П - appointment of roofing material, roofing or lining; K, M, P, H - indicate the type of powder used in the manufacture.

For example:

  • The letter K means that the ruberoid is coarse-grained;
  • Letter M - fine-grained powder;
  • П - dusting;
  • Ч - scaly powder.

Also in the marking there are figures 300, 330, 350, 400, indicating the density of the cardboard substrate, which is measured in grams per square meter.

For example, marking РПП 300 means that this roll roofing material is intended for the lining layer of the roof, it has dusty powder, and the cardboard used for production has a density of 300 grams per square meter. On average in Russia, the cost of roofing felt - from 250 to 350 rubles per roll.

Calculation of the amount of roofing material when buying

From the angle of the roof slope depends the number of layers of roofing material. With a roof slope of 45 degrees or more, only one layer is needed, at 20-40 degrees it is enough to have two layers, at 5-15 degrees, a four layer laying is necessary. On average, the laying of one layer costs 75 rubles per 1 square meter. Two-layer roofing will cost half as much, that is, 130 rubles per 1 square meter.
