Roy Scheider: biography, films, awards

Roy Scheider is an American film and theater actor. He worked as an actor from 1961 to 2007. Scheider was twice nominated for an Oscar.

Childhood

The full name of the actor is Roy Richard Scheider. He was born on November 10, 1932 in the city of Orange in the state of New Jersey. His father was German, Roy Bernard Scheider worked as an auto mechanic. Mother - Irish Anna Crosson.

The future actor was a very painful child. He suffered from rheumatism. To strengthen the body, Scheider has been involved in sports since childhood. As a teenager, he even thought about a sports career. Most of all, Roy attracted boxing and baseball.

College and military service

Scheider's parents dreamed of the son becoming a lawyer, so after school, Roy studied at Rutgers University in Newark, then in a college in the city of Lancastre at the Faculty of Law. In college, Scheider began to study in a theatrical company.

After Roy served as air traffic controller of the US Air Force in Korea. In 1961 he was demobilized.

Actor career

Returning from the service, Roy Scheider (his films attracted less then theatrical productions) settled in a theatrical troupe and played the role of Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet in New York at the park festival, and then permanently stayed with the troupe.

In 1968, he was awarded the Obie Award for his role in the production of "Stephen D."

The first role in the movie Roy performed in 1963. It was a horror film "The Curse of the Living Dead."

Success came to the actor after filming in Steven Spielberg's "Jaws." Roy Scheider played a policeman in him. Next were the "Marathonets" tapes with Lawrence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman and "French connected" director William Friedkin. Roy was married from 1962 to 1989 on an actress named Cynthia Scheider. Their daughter, Maximilia, died in 2006. She left two children - the grandchildren of Roy and Cynthia.

In 1989, Scheider married Brenda Simer, also an actress by profession. From this marriage two children were born - a son named Christian and a daughter who was named Molly.

Roy Scheider is an Academy Award winner in 1971 and 1979, Golden Globe in 1979, and an Independent Spirit Award in 1997. He received them for his roles in the films "French Connected", "All This Jazz" and The Myth of Fingerprints.

Death

Roy died on February 10, 2008 in the town of Little Rock in Arkansas in 75 years. The cause of death was myeloma.
