Reversible switch: scope, features, technical characteristics

A knife switch is a switching device intended for passing current and switching an electrical circuit. Most often they are installed in those rooms where uninterrupted food is needed. Reversible switch is widely used in hospitals, large stores and other non-industrial enterprises. The practice of installing this equipment in country houses is common.

The main task of the circuit breakers is to prevent a short circuit. The versatility of the models allows them to be installed both horizontally and vertically. Reversible switch is designed for networks with alternating voltages not exceeding 650 V and constant up to 450 V. It is quite easy to install circuit breakers of this kind. As a rule, the cables are connected by buses. If the device is designed for 160 A, use a DIN-rail, with a larger rating - the mounting plate.

One of the most common models is the reversible OT40F3C. Its technical characteristics fully meet the safety requirements. The peculiarity of this device is a fast switching to a backup line. This happens automatically without operator involvement.

Types of knife switches

All modern switches are currently divided into three groups:

  • Changeover;
  • Discontinuous;
  • Reversible.

Flip-up switches

The change-over switches are intended for transferring voltage between two circuits or switching several lines simultaneously. Such equipment is installed in panel rooms or near the entrance shield. The fixation positions can be one or two. The use of a change-over type switch allows saving the electric current in the system in an emergency situation or instantly switching to a working line. The lever is located on the outer panel.

Device of explosive type

Circuit breakers are designed to connect only one outgoing electrical circuit. The lever is located on the outer panel. With their help, food in apartments and houses is connected to a common electrical network. It is these devices are the most in demand at the moment, since they are used practically in any residential building. In addition, the breaking knife switches are installed in special switchboards.

Reversible type knifers

For a three-phase current circuit, a reversing switch is used. Thanks to it, it is possible to ensure a completely uninterrupted supply of current. The load with their help is distributed on several lines with full preservation of power supply. Such devices can be operated either manually or by remote control.

Reverse switch design features

Modern knife switches are equipped with a knife contact system, in the process of closing which into stationary spring clips there are metal knives. When using such a system, there is no possibility of breaking the contact in an arbitrary way, that is, under its own weight. Drive manual switch, which is used, for example, when inspecting or repairing the electrical system.

Specifications

All modern switches, depending on the number of poles, are divided into one-, two- and three-pole with the possibility of switching to 1-2 directions.

Also, the reversing reversing switch, based on the connection point of the external terminals, is divided into devices with a perpendicular or parallel terminal. There are also combined options.

On sale there are knife switches with auxiliary contacts, which help to protect against possible overloads of the mains or short circuit. When the equipment is switched off, they provide a visual double break of the electrical circuit: one from the side of the supply wire, the other from the load.

If there is a need for switching the electrical circuit under high voltage, it is recommended to purchase a reversible switch with a so-called arc chute chamber, inside of which an electric arc is extinguished, which helps to avoid a malfunction of the device.
