OJSC "Gurievsky Metallurgical Plant" - review, products and reviews

Open joint-stock company "Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant" is the oldest enterprise of Kuzbass. GMZ became the locomotive of the development of industry in the Kemerovo Region and Southern Siberia in general. Today the enterprise produces rolling, channel bars, corners, profiles, balls for various purposes.

Historical meaning

The most developed region of Siberia in industrial terms is the Kemerovo Region. Southern Siberia was traditionally known in Moscow as a local center for iron-ore industries. The formation of the metallurgical industry of the region is associated with the enterprises built in the 18th and 19th centuries, one of which is the Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant.

GMZ is a city-forming enterprise. Initially, silver was melted here, but in 1844 it was transformed into a center for ferrous metallurgy and continues to operate to this day. The production became the basis for the metallurgical giant of the 20th century - the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Combine (KMK).

Creature

Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant (GMZ) was built in one season and launched in 1816 as a silver and copper smelting plant for the processing of Salair ore. For a month and a half of work in four furnaces of the plant, about 50,000 poods of ore were melted, from which more than 10 poods of enriched silver concentrate were obtained. In 1817, six more melting furnaces were commissioned, and in 1818, more than 1 million poods of ore were melted at the plant, from which 200 poods of silver were smelted.

Re-profiling

With the development of the region's economy, the appearance of gold mining in the Salaira region and the development of coal deposits, PM Zalesov, the chief designer of the plant, proposed to build a blast furnace and an iron furnace in addition to devices for silver smelting. In 1826, the first blast furnace was commissioned, and soon an iron-making factory was built at the plant. Since that time Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant has been changing its profile.

Gradually the iron-making industry becomes the main one. At the beginning of 1840, the iron smelting department finally replaced the silver smelter, and in 1844 the enterprise began to function as a ferrous metallurgy plant. Products guryevskih metallurgists from damask steel were presented at the international exhibition in 1851, held in London, where they were awarded silver medals.

Locomotive of economy

Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant stood at the sources of metallurgy and machine building in Western Siberia. In 1860, within the walls of the enterprise, a mechanical factory (which became the first behind the Urals) started working. It consisted of five shops: assembly, blacksmithing, boiler equipment, foundry, model. The newly formed factory specialized in assembling steam engines, tools and tools for mining. Guryevsky plant was the only production of ferrous metallurgy east of the Ob River. He supplied products for agriculture and industry throughout the region.

Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant: bankruptcy

After the construction of the Siberian Railway at the end of the 19th century, it became difficult for Gurievsky plant to compete with imported metals from the Urals and foreign producers. It was necessary to carry out the reconstruction of the facilities, but the authorities preferred to stop production.

The plant stopped iron production in 1907, and cast iron in 1908. The enterprise was mothballed and declared bankrupt. Guryevsky plant in the spring of 1913 was transferred to the joint stock company of the Kuzbass coal mines, which used power as auxiliary. On the territory there were repairs of mine boilers, pumps, steam engines, trolleys, winches for mines, steam engines, tools were manufactured. In 1914 in the shops of the Guryevsky plant they manufactured equipment intended for the coke oven battery and chemical plant being built in Kemerovo.

The beginning of the Soviet era

After the revolution in the 1920s, the enterprise was fundamentally reconstructed. In 1922 the blast furnace was put into operation, the first cast iron was obtained. Since 1924 open-hearth steel is smelted, in a year the plant began to produce rolled metal. Thus, GMZ became the first after the Urals production with a full metallurgical cycle.

In 1929, it produced 6,221 tons of cast iron, 8,629 tons of iron and steel bar, 7,940 tons of rolled metal, 7,464 tons of cast iron, and 3,188 tons of refractories. The enterprise produced valuable and indispensable products for the new industrial construction, operating enterprises throughout Siberia. First of all, these are rails, long products, corner and reinforcing iron, casting, bolts, etc. During the period from 1925 to 1940, the production of the main types of products was significantly increased at Guryevsky Metallurgical: steel from 1168 to 35045 tons, rolled from 1299 to 48643 tons, refractories from 3000 to 10156 tons, casting from 784 to 6605 tons.

The role in the development of metallurgy of Kuzbass

One of the most important merits of GMZ is participation in the construction and initial development of the giant of metallurgy - the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Combine. Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant, whose activity from March 1929 to 1932 was entirely devoted to Kuznetskstroy, was the base for construction and initial development. The veteran of the Siberian metallurgy provided the Kuznetsk Combine with the necessary qualified personnel, details, materials. In his shops tested equipment designed for KMC.

Great Patriotic and post-war development

Metallurgists GMZ in the war have mastered the rolling of shaped profiles. The enterprise was the only supplier in the USSR of thin-walled complex rolled sections for the aircraft industry. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, the plant produced steel, rolled steel, spare parts for agricultural machines, building bricks, various metal products, structures and equipment, so necessary for the restoration of the economy.

Production in the 1960s became unprofitable because of unequal competition with KMC. In 1970, a large-scale process of reconstruction of technological capacities began. Thanks to the mechanization of the most time-consuming operations, the administration managed to restore profitability and restore the confidence of customers.

New time

Since September 1993, GMZ is a joint-stock company. Becoming the first-born of the Siberian industry, JSC "Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant" on the scale of the Kuznetsk Basin lost its former importance. However, for residents of Guryevsk the plant remains a city-forming enterprise, 1500 people work on it. This is the fourth part of the townspeople engaged in large business. The share of payments by GMZ in tax revenues is more than 30% annually. In 2003, a new management company of CJSC ITF Group Holding came to the company.

In the last decade, competition in the metallurgical market has multiplied many times. In 2008-2009 A large-scale renovation of equipment was carried out, production was modernized. In particular, the capacity of the open-hearth furnace No. 1 has been increased, due to which the capacity has reached 110,000 tons of steel per year.

For the modernization, borrowed money from creditors was raised. However, it is not possible to pay off debts yet. Despite stable work, the plant from 2013 is on the verge of bankruptcy. In 2014, external management was introduced, and in 2016, GMZ was declared insolvent. However, both creditors and employees of the enterprise are in favor of continuing the work of an important production for the region.

Production

Today OJSC "Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant" (INN 4204000253) produces the following types of metallurgical products:

  • Steel balls of different types.
  • Steel round high-quality hire.
  • Round rolling, intended for mills of drum type.
  • Steel square long products.
  • The steel corner is equilateral.
  • The steel channel.
  • The asymmetric bulb for shipbuilding.
  • Special light profile for conveyors.
  • Special profile for braids.
  • Profile for cars.

GMZ (Guryevsky Metallurgical Plant): reviews

GMZ is the main enterprise of the city of Guryev and the largest taxpayer in the district. Work at the production is considered prestigious due to a good (for the region) salary. Although financial problems prevail over the plant, the team stands for the preservation of the native enterprise. Thanks to the modernization carried out in recent years, working conditions have improved significantly.

Positive feedback is heard from the customers of the Guriev factory. Partners note the efficiency of fulfilling orders, worthy quality and attractive prices for products. Discontent is expressed by creditors who expected to increase their investments. Meanwhile, they are in favor of continuing the work of the enterprise.
