Repair of the selector

Automatic gearbox is a wonderful invention of mankind! Eliminates the driver from having to juggle with three pedals, adjusts the torque fluctuations and switches gears.

Automatic transmission

The most common and reliable are hydromechanical "automata". They were invented in the US in the early 30's. The main components of the box:

  • Planetary gears;
  • Hydroblock;
  • Torque converter (clutch).

Not everyone goes into details - what happens when the accelerator or brake pedal is depressed. The driver is guided by the instrument panel:

  1. In the neutral position of the selector, the "N" indicator lights up.
  2. The reverse gear is engaged, the "R" is lit.
  3. Move forward - "D".

Selector switch

In order for the car to understand what the driver wants from it, the gearbox selector sensor is installed in the box. It transmits data to the box controller, is responsible for the inclusion of reverse signals and controls the starter drive. As a rule, it is located on the shaft of the transmission lever.

A faulty selector sensor of the automatic transmission leads to an incorrect operation of the box (it turns on the emergency mode) or the car does not move at all.

If the "HOLD" indicator lights up on the instrument panel, the sensor is defective. Common reasons:

  1. The contact wires are erased. The sensor wiring is too close to the selector for the automatic transmission. Continuous mode switching deforms the already thin wires.
  2. After removing the box, the sensor contact was connected poorly or not connected at all (forgot, and it happens).
  3. No crankcase protection - no protection of the sensor from dirt and water. It is enough to drive through a small puddle, so that water gets on the contacts.

What caused the malfunction in a particular case, computer diagnostics and visual inspection will prompt.

Selector

The gear lever is a way of communicating with the driver. With each new model of the car, it is increasingly being improved and, in addition to the main handle, slowly grows with buttons of additional features and indicators.

The location of the lever differs depending on the model of the machine. In modern cars spread podrulevoy location and the center of the dashboard (if the driver's landing is high - then on the console).

To prevent accidental switching between modes, a button is provided on the selector. It is located on the side, from above or from the front. While it's not pressed, you can not change the lever range. A stepped slot for moving the selector also prevents unnecessary band switching.

In the improvised version of the movement of the lever is possible after the driver pulls it on himself.

Repair of the selector

Incorrect operation of the gearbox can be caused not only by a problem with the sensor, but also by problems in the selector system. For example, a thickening of the lubricant leads to the fact that it is difficult to start the car on a frosty morning or the switching of the ranges is accompanied by jerks and jerks.

Incorrect switching of modes (often happens in drivers accustomed to a mechanical box), aggressive driving style, inclusion of a backing or parking until the car stops completely - all this affects the operation of the selector and disables it.

How to clean the selector yourself

Before surrendering to the mercy of the mechanics of the SRT, you can inspect the unit in garage conditions.

Dismantling:

  1. Before removing the selector, we must mark the arrangement of the parts with respect to the box box and the movable part of the selector.
  2. We remove the battery tray, the air filter housing and, if available, the cruise control vacuum pump (unscrew the bolt for 8 "and take the whiskers out of the groove).
  3. We unfasten the shift cable from the washer and axle, then remove it, but it is better to do this together with the thrust.
  4. Without effort, unscrew and remove the nut on the 13 "from the splines of the shaft. It will have to slightly pozhatat and poddet (but very carefully).
  5. Since there are a lot of wires to connect, you can clean the selector and do not disconnect them completely, that is, in place. We remove the connector with the main bundle (unscrew the two bolts by 12 "), you can remove the other two, completely disconnecting the selector, but you must take into account the condition of the wires and the ability to get to the connector (one of them is connected under the box).
  6. Remove the casing of the wires (it rests on two screws), lightly poddevaya his screwdriver.
  7. We disassemble the selector itself - unscrew 4 screws. We open it.
  8. The main thing is not to lose 3 contact rusks and 3 springs (one of them is double).
  9. We wash off the old grease with gasoline. The selector contacts can be cleaned with kerosene and WD40. If the dirt has not yielded to washing, you can use a small polishing nazhdachku and ink eraser.
  10. Apply silicone grease.
  11. We collect everything in the reverse order, not forgetting to combine tags.

After such a procedure, the selector should again earn in normal mode.

Replacing selector for automatic transmission

After cleaning, the reverse situation can occur - the box will continue to junk. If the indicator light is still on the dashboard, you will have to go to the car service and trust the professionals. With the help of computer diagnostics, the mechanic will identify and, if possible, eliminate errors.

Replacing the selector is an extreme measure. It is resorted to when repair is impossible or there are no spare parts for replacement. For example, with a mechanical breakdown of the lever, its support base (the pin is metal, but if desired it can be bent or broken).

For older cars there is a used selector. Purchase of a new one, its installation and adjustment will cost the car owner quite expensive.

Conclusion

Selector AKPP - a thing quite fragile. Timely oil change and diagnostics, accurate switching of modes, availability of protection and casing will help to avoid unnecessary financial costs. Good luck!
