Queen of the Tropics - dienenbachia: home care

One of the most common representatives of the family of aroids is the genus of diffenbachia. As indoor plants grow more than 30 varieties, among which anyone can find the most suitable for the interior color of leaves and size. These plants can be seen in many offices and homes - so got used to us tropical diffenbachia. Care at home for the plant is simple, it is enough to learn the main rules.

Where to place the Diffenbachia?

Like any other tropical indoor plants, diffenbachia likes warmth, humidity and moderate lighting. The minimum permissible temperature in the room is +17 degrees, the maximum +30. On insufficient humidity of the air, the plant immediately reacts by wilting and falling leaves. It is almost impossible to damage the too-moist air of the diffenbahia. With appropriate lighting, the plant can be located even in the bathroom - such a place will fall in love with diffenbachia. Care at home for a tropical plant requires choosing the best lighting option. The need for light is moderate, placing near the window facing the south side can lead to burns on the leaves. The color of the plant will fade if light is not enough. It is strictly forbidden to install a tub or pot near the radiator or in drafts.

Dieffenbachia: home care

From mid-spring to early autumn, the plant needs abundant watering and regular fertilization in the soil.

Preferably moisten the soil in the morning. In the period of active growth, the soil in the pot must always be moist, watering can be done after the top layer has dried.

In the period of rest watering diffenbachia should be moderate. It is important not to bog the soil, otherwise rotting of the roots will begin.

Feeding is done every 2-3 weeks. Suitable for any mineral fertilizer for ornamental-deciduous plants or organic. In the period of rest (from autumn), the plant is not fed.

For diffenbahia, it is also important to spray the leaves. The procedure is recommended several times a day (subject to medium or low humidity). To do this, use purified soft water. Regular spraying of leaves helps create conditions that are as close as possible to the natural ones in which diffenbachia grows. Care at home for this plant is impossible without regular hygiene procedures and transplant. Do not forget to remove wilted and drying leaves and shoots in a timely manner. Pruning is done solely in gloves, because of the poisonous juice of the plant. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Once a week, wipe all parts of the plant from dust with a soft sponge. Like other decorative-deciduous houseplants , diffenbachia requires periodic transplantation. It is desirable to conduct it during the period of active growth. When transplanting, it is recommended to completely replace the drainage layer and remove excess soil from the roots, replacing the new one.
