Processor Pentium g630: Intel has offered an excellent solution for creating budget computing systems

In 2011, an excellent solution for assembling an entry-level PC was the Pentium G630. Intel released this year the second generation of semiconductor solutions based on the "Kor" architecture, which has become revolutionary. These products continue to be relevant to this day.

Socket for this chip

Like all products of the 2nd and 3rd generations based on the Kor architecture, the hero of this review is designed to be installed in the LGA1155 socket. At the moment it is outdated both morally and physically. But if we take its capabilities in the context of entry-level computing platforms, then the coefficient of its performance still continues to be relevant. In this regard, he really does not lose much more fresh chips on the basis of newer sockets. But the price of it really pleases the eye.

Production technology

At the forefront for 2011 was produced "Pentium G630". Intel in this regard is really much ahead of its competitors. The tolerance standards in this case corresponded to the process technology of 32 Nm. Of course, now the technology is obsolete completely. But at that moment it was really advanced in the production of silicon crystals. From the point of view of an entry-level PC, this characteristic is not so important and, as a rule, recedes into the background.

Cache

A powerful system of 3 levels of cache is equipped with Intel Pentium G630. The first is 64 KB. They, in turn, are divided into 2 parts of 32 KB. The total size of the second level in this case was 512 KB. The third reached 3 MB. And according to this indicator the chip of five years ago is not inferior even to some CPUs of the last generation from the direct competitor of the company "Intel" - "AMD".

RAM

Another important innovation of this generation of CPUs was the fact that the memory controller was transferred to a semiconductor chip of the CPU. On the one hand, this engineering approach minimized the types of RAM that could be used in conjunction with this chip. But, on the other hand, it significantly increased the speed of the computer system in the end. To exchange information between CPU and RAM, it was necessary to spend much less time.

The standard of supported RAM in this case is DDR3, the operating frequencies of the modules can be 1333 or 1600 MHz. Of course, it is possible to use faster modules in such PCs. But their operating frequency will be limited to 1600 MHz. The maximum amount of addressable RAM in this case is 32 GB. If you use an integrated graphics solution, some of the installed RAM will be used for the needs of the integrated video system.

Thermal features

65 W - this is the heat package that appears in the documentation for the Intel Pentium CPU G630. The maximum permissible temperature for this semiconductor crystal is 69 ° C. This is a typical value for processors of that time. Something noteworthy in the background of its competitors, this CPU is not allocated.

Frequencies

The nominal value of the clock frequency of 2.7 GHz was the main one for the CPU "Pentium G630". Intel did not use Turbobust technology in this budget chip. As a result, changing the value of the clock frequency depending on the load and the degree of heating in this case was unrealistic. A small overclocking is possible. Although the CPU multiplier is blocked, the system bus frequency could be increased. Its maximum value is -111.1 MHz under the most favorable coincidence. As a result, you can get 3 GHz already. At the same time, there was no special need to purchase improved components.

Graphic component

The innovative product in terms of integrated graphics component is the Intel G630 processor (like all semiconductor representatives of this generation of CPUs). If before this time the video card was either transferred to the motherboard or was part of the CPU, but was on the second semiconductor chip, it was the processors of the Sandy Bridge (including the hero of this article) that became "breakthrough" in this regard.

The integrated graphics accelerator in this family of silicon chips was transferred to the same crystal as the CPU. As a result, it turned out an ideal solution for building an entry-level PC. You just need to buy a central processor, and an entry-level video card is already built into it. Her model is HD Graphics. Computing capabilities are quite enough for a budget PC. Well, for something more it was necessary to buy more expensive chips.

Results

Finally, we note that only 2 computational modules capable of processing data in 2 streams were part of the Pentium G630. Intel even now its entry-level products in the same way complements. And there is nothing special about this. In the rest, the processor continues to be a worthy product for building a budget-class system unit.
