Prague wolf - one of the most miniature breeds of dogs in the world

To date, the breed of a dog, the Prague rider is very popular. Despite a small growth - about 23 cm at the withers, the rat is an excellent hunter. Thanks to fighting spirit and mobility, he received his name, which in Czech means "little catcher of rats". Also, the breed is also known as the Prague rattle or sernochka.

History of the origin of the breed

The story of the birth of a Prague fugitive goes back to the distant past of the Czech Republic. Originally the breed was called "ratlik" and its task was to protect the master's house and property from the invasion of rats. For the first time the breed was described in documents dating from the 8th to 9th centuries AD. At one time, the Polish king Boleslaw ll Generous brought small dogs from the Czech Republic. Later, in 1377, during a visit to France, the King of Bohemia gave Charles V the Wise three rats, thereby confirming the friendship of France and the Czech Republic. In the historical literature, the presence of fugitives among many rulers of Europe of different times was noted.

Subsequently, in connection with the defeat of the Czechs during the war on the White Mountain, the status of the dog was lost. They became favorites of women, not only of a noble family, but also of poor people suffering from raids of rats. And only at the end of the last century, more precisely in 1980, thanks to the tremendous efforts of dog handlers to revive the breed, the Prague wolf-dog was recognized as a national breed of the Czech Republic, and later it earned recognition from many countries of the world.

Characteristics of character

The Prague rat is very sweet, peaceful, sympathetic and affectionate animal. Despite the fact that the modern fugitive, in contrast to medieval ancestors, does not perform the task of a rat-trapper, he, obeying basic instincts, likes to hunt while walking on the street. The rats are clever and mischievous dogs, love comfortable conditions and easily get accustomed to the apartment. They are obedient and balanced, loyal to the master and unobtrusive. They can be patient with their host without fussing or showing concern. Next to other animals occupy the position of leader. The dog is not prone to panic and panic. At a meeting with a stranger, he behaves cautiously and detached. In the cold season during the walk the dog frosts, so it needs to be insulated.

The Prague rat, whose photo confirms the description, is characterized by a pronounced musculature and a strong skeleton. The head has the shape of a pear with a tubercle at the back of the head. Ears are strong, triangular in shape, slightly directed towards each other and always in a standing position. The eyes are wide and straight. Between the eyes there is a clearly marked hollow. The dog's muzzle has noble features, the lips are strong and undiscovered, the jaw muscles are well developed. During the movement, the dog's tail is raised and can be rounded. The basic color of the coat is tawny, black-red, but may have a different color. Wool can be either long or short. A powerful body, a broad chest and the description given above indicate the breed of a Prague wolf. Toy Terrier is thin-boned and more refined, despite the fact that they have related roots.

Training and education of the Prague rider

The rats are devoted to the master and feel the change of mood very well, and they also perfectly understand the praise and discontent. In this regard, they are very amenable to training. Easy to remember commands and able to perform various tricks.
