Patriarchal Family: Pros and Cons

We have been living in the family since childhood. We are surrounded by parents, grandmother and grandfather, if there are, then uncles and aunts. This, of course, at best. We know that the family is the cell of society, the most, perhaps, strong. It is complete and incomplete, monogamous and polygamous. It is divided into types and types. The most common type is patriarchal. This is what will be discussed in this article.

The man is the boss!

From the name it is clear that the patriarchal family is the one in which the husband and father are in charge. It is he who takes the most important and meaningful decisions, he manages the fate of children and is the administrator of the family budget. This refers to the classical version of this concept.

Why did the transition take place?

According to ethnographic data, the patriarchal family became the next after the matriarchal family, when women dominated. With the formation of communities, women lost their rights, which became fully used by men. The whole community was subordinated to one person - the father. There were such concepts as the heir and the right of inheritance.

The heir is the throne

From history, we know that by right of inheritance in royal families by the king-father, the throne was transferred to the eldest of sons. The age of the heir did not matter: until he reached his majority, all functions of the monarch were performed by the guardian.

Stereotypes

There are different types of families, patriarchal - the most common option. Some canons are already forgotten, as, for example, the right of inheritance. As before, in such surnames, the main man is the man. Although the society has become democratic and equal in rights, very often it is the husband who remains the sole breadwinner. A woman, like in old times, pulls a stereotype of the keeper of the hearth.

Why is he the head?

In such a cell of society as the traditional patriarchal family, the wife submits to her husband (the rule is an unspoken one). His predominant role was due to his economic independence. If he works, it means he gets income. Focusing on the financial possibilities of the family name, he makes significant decisions for her. This applies to additional activities of the child, a new purchase for the wife or the house, planning for recreation and the like. Very often the spouse also works, but the husband is still engaged in the budget, even if her financial contribution is not less than her husband's income.

Types

The modern patriarchal family has several types:

1. When the main income belongs to the spouse, and the woman is quite happy with this state of affairs. There are common interests, there is communication, mutual understanding reigns. This is a type of happy family: he and she are happy with each other.

2. When a husband does not have basic earnings, but only temporary, a woman is the main earner. An abusive husband will sooner or later start to rebel. The reason is trivial: the husband seeks to subjugate his wife, but she does not like that the husband does not provide her and the children. This union is doomed.

3. The third type, which is based on economic benefits. The husband is not so young, but rich, the wife is young, but without education and money. Marriage is based on mutual consent and understanding.

As life shows, the patriarchal family quite suits the female sex. A man, he is a representative of the stronger sex, is the main support of their union. In contrast to the infringement of women's rights, she stands behind her husband, so she and her children are protected and taken care of.
