Oxygen cylinders. Proper refueling is a guarantee of health and safety

To the hobby of diving did not present unpleasant surprises, but only gave pleasure, it is necessary to observe strict rules of preparation for immersion in water. Proper filling of oxygen cylinders is one of the most important, but dangerous procedures of this preparation.

Capacities of cylinders can be filled with ordinary air or special mixtures of gas pumped into them by means of a compressor. At high pressure, the depths of impurities in gas mixtures can become life-threatening, so refueling of cylinders with compressed gases must be eliminated altogether.

Refuel oxygen cylinders only in specialized places, for example, where they sell underwater equipment. When filling oxygen cylinders, it is necessary to take into account several important details:

  • Be extremely careful when pumping oxygen.
  • Use only labeled oxygen cylinders.
  • Oxygen cylinders should have a mixture indicator.

Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, oil and grease particles from the compressor and other impurities that contaminate the respiratory mixture - all of them can cause the death of the driver.

Causes of oxygen bottle explosion

Working with oxygen, at any time there may be an explosion of an oxygen cylinder, the causes of which may be:

  • Corrosion of the inner wall of the cylinder.
  • Carelessness during oxygen pumping.
  • Damage to the thread or neck in the place where the valve is fixed.

The explosion of the oxygen cylinder can also be caused by a sharp drop in the temperature of the filled container and air. A powerful compressor, which pumps non-chilled air, heats the cylinder. After filling, the metal part of the cylinder cools down faster than the hot air that is inside it, and this, in turn, produces additional loads on the walls of the tank.

It is during this critical stress and there is a risk of explosion. Therefore, the cooling process is the most dangerous of the moments in the process of filling oxygen cylinders.

Oxygen cylinders are desirable to be stored filled, which greatly reduces the risk of hazardous elements entering the tank (particles of diesel fuel, gasoline, sea water, toxic gases, colonies of microorganisms), which subsequently threaten the life and health of a scuba diver.

Refueling station of cylinders with oxygen

This station, as a rule, has an oxygen concentrator with the necessary power, a connecting armature and an oxygen compressor of high pressure. For example, a complex that consists of an oxygen concentrator and a corresponding compressor, whose capacity is 8 liters per minute at a pressure of 150 Atm, can charge two forty-liter bottles per day. This complex can completely solve the problem of supplying oxygen. For example, an ambulance station.

Oxygen concentrator of increased productivity, when using a compressor with an appropriate capacity, can fill oxygen bottles up to 100 pieces per day.
