Paint for road marking: description

Thanks to the marking applied to the roadway, it is possible to significantly increase the throughput capabilities of the trails, as well as reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents. This is especially important in densely populated areas. Paint for marking roads is an important component of providing and organizing the safety of road users.

To paint and varnish coating of this type, a lot of requirements are presented. For example, it should be visible on the road side regardless of the time of year or the type of coverage of the route. On this depends uninterrupted traffic on transport highways. Therefore, when choosing a paint, it is important to pay attention to its technical characteristics, shelf life and operating time.

Advantages of specialized paints

If we talk about the advantages of paint for marking roads, then it is worth highlighting the following:

  • Resistance to abrasion and temperature changes.
  • Easy application. The paint is applied using specialized machines or a conventional roller.
  • Resistant to aggressive environments: reagents, salts, gasoline and precipitation.
  • Drying speed. Due to this, road works are carried out very quickly and do not paralyze traffic for a long time.

White paint for marking roads is clearly visible on a sunny day or at dusk. In addition, in the composition of specialized road paint and varnish are very often added retroreflective balls.

In this case, do not forget that the paint should meet GOST R-5257-2006.

Requirements

According to the requirements of the State Register, the paint for road marking must meet the following standards:

  • It should be visible on all sections of the roadway regardless of the time of day, as well as in the conditions of rain, snow, hail or clear sun.
  • The intensity of movement should not affect the indicators of wear resistance of the markup and the life of the markup.
  • Should not affect the adhesion of the tires of vehicles with the roadway.

GOST also regulates the production of a specialized paint coating. Therefore, any material must be accompanied by appropriate permits and certificates. If the composition is poorly visible on the road, then this is a clear violation of the requirements.

Also, you should not confuse the paint for road marking with the compositions for the curbs. The second type of LCP is subject to less stringent requirements.

Curb Paint

This type of coating includes materials that are applied manually or using special equipment for air spraying.

Paints in this category should be resistant to reagents and salt. In this case, LCP can be applied in conditions of severe cold.

Paint for marking roads: material characteristics

If we talk about the parameters of such compositions, the qualitative LCP differs by the following indices:

  • External type of coating. After drying, a special protective film is formed on the paint. In this case, the marking surface must be matte.
  • The mass fraction of non-volatile substances in the range of 65-80%.
  • The film's washability is not more than 1 g / m 2 .
  • The conditional viscosity is not less than 40, provided the diameter of the nozzle is 4 mm.
  • Adhesion of the protective film (not less than 1 point).
  • The drying time is not more than 20 minutes. The composition should be applied at a humidity of not more than 65% and a temperature of +20 to +2 degrees.
  • The resistance of the protective film to water is not less than 48 hours.

What colors are used

As mentioned above, the markings must dry very quickly and be resistant to aggressive substances that are used to treat road surfaces. When choosing the most qualitative material, the class of the road and its patency should be taken into account. Also it is necessary to take into account the type of drawing that should be applied, the class of paint will depend on it. Some materials can be used only to draw smooth lines, while others, on the contrary, are more suitable for bends and turns.

White paint for road marking should be sufficiently bright and contrast. Most often, acrylic and alkyd marking material is used for these purposes. Such compositions dry out quite quickly, a protective matte film is formed on their surface, which is distinguished by its durability and resistance to abrasion. In addition, such formulations have very high adhesion rates, so they are easily applied to any surface.

AK-511

This one-component paint is used for temporary and permanent horizontal marking on the roadway. It is suitable for application to asphalt or concrete. It is most often used for marking car parks, carriageways, runways and much more.

The paint for road marking "AK-511" is weatherproof. The composition is applied by specialized machines.

Grid AK-Dor 1.01

This composition is most often used for tracks equipped with an improved modern coating. The paint for road marking "AK-Dor 1.01" is adapted to moderate climatic conditions. Due to this, it can be used in areas where the air temperature ranges from -40 to +60 degrees. The composition of this type is used for roadblocks and car parks.

In addition, the paint for road marking "Grida" is used for painting concrete, curbs, natural or ceramic stone and sand-cement mixture.

Features of application

Most often acrylic and alkyd paints are applied by spraying and using pneumatic installations. Passage on the road is possible after 5-10 minutes after painting. However, this should be very warm weather (at least +25 degrees). At lower temperature conditions, the labeling compounds dry slightly longer.

In the market you can buy paint, which must be diluted with water. Compositions of this type quickly dry up and do not contain volatile substances. At the same time a matte protective surface is formed on the marking. Such paints can be heated up to 60 degrees, so that the drying speed of the marking material is significantly reduced.

Nevertheless, water-soluble formulations should not be applied in conditions of high humidity. Within 15-20 minutes after covering the roadway, such markings can "swim".

To create markings up to 4 mm thick, it is recommended to use two-component compositions. They are characterized by high adhesion and are resistant to repeated treatment with snow-removing machines. In addition to light-reflecting particles, these paints contain quartz sand, which gives an additional roughness to the marking.

Recommendations for use

Before using the marking composition it must be thoroughly mixed. For the application of paint on asphalt, it is best to use special sprayers.

Also, when using the material, the following requirements must be taken into account:

  • The ambient temperature should be at least +4 degrees of heat.
  • Humidity of air - no more than 80%.
  • The temperature of the roadway is no more than +50 degrees.

Work is necessary in rubber gloves. In addition, it should be borne in mind that specialized colorants quickly ignite.

The drying time of the paint depends on the applied composition. Typically, the marking will harden in 15-20 minutes or faster. If the climatic conditions are less favorable, then it is necessary to increase the drying time of the material.

The average consumption of marking materials is about 0.4 kg / m 2 , if the thickness of the marking is not more than 400 μm.

Do not store paint and varnish compositions more than 1 year. Otherwise, the quality of the markup will be much worse. In addition, such materials have poor adhesion, which is why they are very quickly erased from the roadway. When buying paint, you must ask the seller for certificates and other documents confirming the quality of the marking material. The best colors are "AK-511" and "Hydra AK-Door 1.01". When buying other compounds it is necessary to make sure that they are suitable for asphalt.
