Orchids of multiflora: home care

Multiflora orchids are valued for unpretentiousness and beauty. Care for them does not require the huge strengths and skills of a professional gardener, and the flowers please their beautiful appearance. In addition, flowers are an excellent remedy for depression, this is a scientifically proven fact. Today we will tell you everything about the beautiful phalaenopsis.

Orchids of multiflora: a description

The story of a beautiful flower you want to start with the history of its discovery. In 1750, Professor Blume from Holland first noticed orchids. On the opening day, he was on the island of Ambon, which is on the Malay Archipelago, and was surrounded by dense thickets. Twilight was gathering, and the professor was already going to go to a safe place for the night, when suddenly he noticed a number of bright butterflies sitting on the plant. Approaching them, Blume was surprised to find that butterflies are not insects, but beautiful bright flowers. It was then that it received its name of the phalaenopsis orchid of multiflora, which means "a flower like a butterfly".

This orchid is valued for its unusual bright flowers, the shape of the petals which resembles the wings of butterflies. This beauty is rather unpretentious, and for a long time pleases with flowering, which lasts from two to four months. The plant is decorated with multicolor brushes. Arrows with "butterflies" rise from the bare root system or from the sinus sinus. There are a lot of cunning techniques that make an orchid bloom several times a year, and with proper care it is possible to achieve flowering three times in twelve months. But we'll talk about this in the future content of the article.

Recently, many hybrids of the multiflora orchid have appeared, this explains the extraordinary variety of shades of petals of flowers. Not long ago, lovers of indoor plants began to be able to decorate the room with phalaenopsis of bright blue, saturated color. But these are colored plants, which can be guessed by the presence of paint in the roots, and this is written on the label of the pot, in which the marvelous plant is sold.

Peduncles branching and flexible, surrounded by five or six dark-green sheets of oval form. Usually, if a new sheet appears, one of the old ones fades. But it happens that the orchid of multiflora, the photo of which is available in this article, has up to twelve sheets. Phalaenopsis grows directly from the ground, it does not have a stem. On each of the peduncles there can be up to 20 inflorescences, so the plant during the flowering period has a lot of "butterflies".

Orchid multiflora: home care

Phalaenopsis is an epiphyte, as it chooses the roots of trees for living and growing. The plant not only holds on to the root, but also receives proper nutrition from the overripe remains of plants that lurk in the depressions of the bark. How can we provide such a diet at home so that the orchid multiflora will bloom and rejoice? Care, as we have already said, is simple to primitive. Today, we will talk about how to grow a flower, what kind of fertilizing it needs.

Multiflora orchids love light very much. They feel great on the windowsills, and in well-lit rooms. If, for a long time, the yard is cloudy, it is necessary for the plant to provide additional lighting. In summer, when the sun is "hot", the orchid needs to be removed from the window sill, as its tender petals can get burned.

Phalaenopsis does not have a distinct period of rest, so the temperature regime is also very important. In summer it is considered acceptable from +25 to +35, in winter it is not lower than +25 degrees. Particularly important for the formation of kidneys is the temperature difference at night and in the daytime. If the plant is kept on the windowsill, then such a drop will be guaranteed. Only carefully select a place to install the pot, there should not be drafts, their multiflora does not tolerate. You can not transport and carry a flower along the street in the winter and cold autumn time, as the roots can freeze and die.

If the temperature for Phalaenopsis is unacceptable, it will show it to you with its leaves: they will be covered with wrinkles, and lose elasticity. Many flower lovers, first encountered with orchid content, confuse this symptom with a lack of moisture.

Air humidity

Multiflora orchids in nature grow in moist tropical thickets, so if you want to grow and conserve the plant at home, it's worth taking care of air saturation with the necessary moisture. Phalaenopsis grows well if its pot is on a pallet with water laid out with expanded clay. The moisture will evaporate, and will bring comfort to the plant.

If the room is too dry, then frequent wiping of the leaves with a dampened sponge in the water, and spraying with soft, standing water. It must be ensured that moisture does not stagnate in the rosettes formed by the leaves.

Watering

To ensure proper care, water phalaenopsis twice a week in the summer and once in the winter. It is important not to overdry and wet the roots. Many prefer to lower the pot with the plant in water for fifteen minutes, so that the substrate is completely soaked.

If the plant does not have enough watering, then the lower leaves will turn yellow, and veins will appear on the upper ones. If the roots are parched or rotted, the affected areas are removed with a sharp knife, and the sections are treated with coal powder or sulfur. To the roots and leaves do not become rotten, do not allow water to enter the sinus leaves during watering.

Feeding

The newly purchased plant should not be spoiled with different "yummies" for flowering and growth, since they can already be fully pumped up with all sorts of fertilizers. After this interval, select a feeding for orchids with a low nitrogen content, and use it all year round. Dosage and amount of fertilizing, the gap between them, see the instructions on the package. Do not increase the amount of fertilizer prescribed by the manufacturer.

Transfer

Like all plants, multiflora will eventually become crowded in its pot, and it will require expansion of living space. To do this, buy a substrate and a transparent pot. Why transparent? So it will be easier for you to monitor the condition of the roots, and in time to "resuscitate" the plant. So, it is necessary to replant only in the spring. Prepare the pot: make additional holes on the sides and on the bottom, lay drainage, on top of some substrate. The plant has very fragile roots, so put them in a new pot extremely neatly and just as carefully cover them with the remnants of the substrate. In no case do not crush the roots, do not clap the substrate. The rosette of leaves should remain completely on the surface. If some roots were left to stand in different directions, and were not sprinkled, let it be so. Over time, they will hide themselves.

Dangerous pests

Multiflora orchids are attacked by pests and diseases. If your beauty is "knocked down" by the virus, then do not try to save it, destroy it together with the substrate and the pot, so that other plants do not get infected. Danger of orchid is gray rot, aphids, slugs and snails. Parasites are too hard to be caught in harmful effects, as they are traded at night. Buy the necessary additives in the soil, which will prevent the appearance of harmful neighbors.

If phalaenopsis does not bloom

If the plant was brought from the store, and the kidneys began to dry out - nothing terrible, just changed care and content. Soon, new flower buds will appear on the peduncles. After blossoming, you do not need to trim the plant, the dead peduncles themselves will fall away, and the good ones will again be covered with "butterflies".

If for a long time new peduncles do not appear, or they do not form buds, then be sure you spoiled, and did not ruin the orchid. She needs to be punished a bit, reminded of the destination. So, you need for a couple of weeks to reduce the air temperature at night to +16 and stop moistening the air. Soon the beauty will please you with its flowers!
