Ointment Vishnevsky: when its application is appropriate, and when not?

Probably, there is no person who does not know what Vishnevsky ointment is. One can ironically mock about its sharp smell, but as soon as something starts to be picked up, first of all we remember exactly this folk ointment, the recipe of which belongs to the famous surgeon A. V. Vishnevsky.

Ointment Vishnevsky: composition and properties

The main component of Vishnevsky's ointment is birch tar, it has long been used in villages as a means by which peasants treated all kinds of sores, both their own and their pets. Also in the composition of the ointment are xerobes and castor oil. All these three components, taken in the proportions proposed by Vishnevsky - namely, 3 parts of tar and xerogene and 94 parts of castor oil, prepared in the dosage form of balsamic liniment, can improve blood circulation in the affected tissues, and also disinfect and simultaneously dry and soften the affected areas.

During the Second World War, ointment was widely used in the treatment of purulent wounds, trophic ulcers, pressure sores, burns and frostbite. More than half a century has passed since then, and medicine has stepped far ahead, but a jar or tube of the most famous ointment is still available to almost everyone in the home medicine cabinet, since this cheap and effective drug has not lost its relevance in our days.

Indications for use

Apply Ointment Vishnevsky externally in the form of compresses, bandages, as well as tampons for the treatment of abscesses, wounds and ulcers (including varicose) in the granulation stage, as well as diseases of the vessels of the lower limbs (thrombophlebitis), lymphadenitis, lymphangitis.

On the maturing abscess Ointment Vishnevsky imposed in the form of a gauze dressing with a drug applied to it for 8-10 hours. In some cases, make an ointment compress, covering the place of the bandage with cellophane or wax paper. After removing the bandage, the skin should first be wiped dry, and then treated with alcohol, then, if necessary, the ointment is applied again.

When thrombophlebitis ointment is impregnated with a piece of gauze and it wraps the diseased limb. This bandage should be changed twice a day, while using one Vishnevsky ointment is not always recommended, it is best to alternate it with bandages impregnated with heparin ointment.

Even the most miraculous means have contraindications. Vishnevsky's ointment is no exception. Regardless of its miraculous properties, doctors warn that in some cases it is necessary to use this folk ointment with caution. In addition to the fact that Vishnevsky's ointment can cause allergy in people sensitive to any of its components, it must be taken into account that this remedy was invented to accelerate the spontaneous dissection of abscesses, in conditions when there is no time to provide surgical help.

The fact that under the ointment processes of suppuration are accelerated, and if the abscess is located on the surface, then after an accelerated spontaneous dissection, self-healing occurs quickly. And if the purulent focus is in the depth of the subcutaneous tissue, even larger volumes of nearby tissues can be involved in the suppuration area, moreover, in some cases such a purulent process can affect the adjacent bone tissue (especially this situation is dangerous for digging fingers). Therefore, modern surgery insists that if there is an opportunity to call a doctor in time for help, then the abscess in dangerous areas must be opened without waiting for his spontaneous breakthrough.

Do not neglect the request for help to specialists, self-medication even in simple, seemingly, very dangerous cases!
