Surgut: the number of people in the dynamics

The city was built by the decree of Ivan the Terrible's son. It was he who allowed Vladimir Onichkov and Fyodor Baryatinsky to take 155 servicemen and establish one of the first settlements in Western Siberia on the bank of the Ob river. The reason for this decision was the demand for expensive furs. Oil will be found only in the 20th century. At first the population of Surgut was 155 people: servicemen and their families, guardians, hangmen, interpreters and clergy. Many of the original residents did not survive the difficult conditions and left. The tsar even had to detach 112 more soldiers with his family, because his hands were sorely lacking.

At the end of the 19th century the population of Surgut was 1,100 people. In the first 15 years of the 20th century, it increased 1.6 times. In 1939 the population of Surgut was 2,300 people. Then the period of active growth of the number of inhabitants begins. In 1979, the population of the city has already exceeded 100 thousand. Three years later, it already had 50,000 more people, and in 1985 it was already 217,000. Then there was a slight decline, and then the growth slowed somewhat. In 1990 there were 258 thousand people living in the city. At the beginning of the 21st century, the population of Surgut was 274,900 people. In 2010, the threshold of 300 thousand was overcome.

Administrative-territorial organization

The city is well designed. Conditionally it can be divided into three zones:

  • city;
  • Industrial Zone;
  • Old Surgut.

The city is divided into five districts:

  • Oriental;
  • Northern;
  • Central;
  • Northeastern;
  • Industrial.

However, in practice these names are used extremely rarely. For example, there are areas of power engineers, oil workers and builders. All national names are formed according to a similar principle.

Economy

Surgut is one of the most developed regions. This is largely due to the vast deposits of oil. The city is considered one of the most progressive in Russia. The most influential are the three enterprises. Among them is Surgutneftegaz. A third of the city's population works in the subdivisions of this enterprise. The volume of resources it produces is 33 million cubic meters of oil and more than 10 billion of gas. Subdivisions are engaged in drilling operations, transportation and road-building management.

Another important enterprise is Gazprom-processing. This is a plant that produces finished fuel. Salaries on it are the highest in the city, so only the most qualified specialists can get settled here. Also important are thermal power plants. GRES-2 is considered the largest in Europe. It provides electricity to 80% of the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug. Getting a job in oil companies is quite difficult, but more and more vacancies appear for builders. Every year the sphere of trade is growing. Also, a large number of people are hired by the bread and dairy factories and the meat-packing plant. Therefore, there is work in the city, information on new vacancies is most easily found in the newspapers.
