Occlusive bandage

Currently, in connection with the active development of medicine, there is an increasing number of different methods for both diagnosis and treatment. Do not remain without attention and various bandages with their own characteristics and technique of application. There are a huge number of different dressings, which, depending on the application (destination), are divided into aseptic (protective), medicinal, immobilizing, haemostatic, corrective, stretch bandages, and occlusive dressings. The latter are necessary for sealing the wound and are most often used in pneumothorax.

Pneumothorax develops when air enters the chest, this occurs when injuries and injuries of the latter, with a violation of its integrity. Entering the chest (namely into the pleural cavity, where atmospheric pressure of air is several times lower than in the environment), air causes equalization of the pressure difference. As a result, the light falls off (that is, it significantly decreases in volume and practically does not fulfill its function). In this case, first aid is an occlusive dressing.

Restoring the tightness of the pleural cavity, this dressing promotes the preservation of lung function. However, it is important to correctly apply the occlusive dressing. To carry out qualified first aid, use an individual dressing package. It is a bandage and two cotton-gauze tampons, which are in sterile rubberized packaging. The occlusive dressing is performed with a rubberized packing cloth that tightly presses against the wound. Above this tissue cotton swabs are applied, which are fixed by several rounds (turns) of the bandage entering the PPI (individual dressing bag).

Due to the fact that the wound is superimposed with a rubberized fabric that does not allow air to escape, the integrity of the pleural cavity is restored. An occlusive dressing can also be performed in the absence of an individual dressing bag. So, any rubberized cloth (oilcloth) or even a polyethylene film can be used as this dressing. This material should also be pressed tightly to the wound with cotton wool and bandages.

It is important to correctly observe the technique of applying bandages. So, to ensure the preservation of the least amount of air between the sheets of the parietal and visceral pleura, it is necessary to occlude (seal the cavity) at the moment of inspiration of the victim. This is due to the fact that at the time of inspiration, a part of the air that enters the cavity is forced out by the increasing volume of the lung. Correctly applied dressing technique will reduce the degree of pneumothorax and maximize the functional activity of the lung.

Today, the pressure-type occlusive dressing is also used in the treatment of trophic ulcers, but this technique has not been widely used, although its effectiveness has been proved in practice.

At the present time, a whole scientific discipline has been developed that describes the methods of imposing various bandages. As for the occlusive dressing, the technique of its application is properly covered in the "teaching about the imposition of bandages" - desmurgy. Its study (both theoretical and practical) deals with both average medical workers and workers with higher medical education (doctors).

The occlusive dressing actually finds its application only to eliminate breaches of the pleural cavity leakage, with penetrating injuries and chest injuries. Completed correctly and, most importantly, timely manipulation will save the life of the victim.
