"Obliko morale" - a quote from the comedy film and "The moral code of the builder of communism"

The case took place in Turkey, more precisely in Istanbul, which in 1969 was presented to our citizens as mysterious and exotic.

In Soviet-naive Semyon Semyonitch, who had no experience of communicating with the women of the ancient profession, he showed human participation. He tried to understand what the lady who asked him was thinking, thinking that she was preoccupied with a problem that required his intervention and help. His new comrade, Kozodoev, more experienced in these matters, rejected the claims of "the priestess of mercenary love," using pseudo-foreign language. He explained that his friend has a "oblico morale", and no "cigel" on the side of him is not interested. This scene is recognizable by everyone who watched the wonderful comedy "The Diamond Arm" directed by Gaidai. It causes laughter today.

Goltepa, studio and other "foreign" words

The tradition of giving Russian words a foreign sound in art is not new. It is enough to recall Leskov with his "studio" (pudding) or an explanation of the French notions "promenade" (walk) and "goltepa" (gol) of the mothers of the unforgettable Balzaminov. In the post-war years, the national language was enriched with other pearls, this time of German origin (for example, "guten morgen saharin", or "hendeh huh gutalin"), funny imitating the talk of former opponents. Humor is contained in the sound of these phrases, combining foreign and Russian words. The "ruso touristy oblico morale" replica is also "working" to reinforce the effect, supplemented by the German question: "Fershtein?" By the way, in this wonderful comedy there are other moments that outplay this "ai lyu" in combination with untranslatable play of words, The meaning of which is easily guessed by the gestures and articulation of foreign characters.

A comedy joke and a party program

In the sixties, the order in the country became much more liberal than in the 30s or 50s, but joking over the "oblico morale" was still a matter, if not beyond the bounds of the censorship, then definitely right on it. The point is that the concept of "the moral image of the builder of communism" was part of the party program, a document that did not provide for the possibility of any ridicule. Another question is that this document was adopted in the era of the previous secretary general, N.S. Khrushchev, whose achievements could already be subjected to humorous beating, however, very delicate (as "queen of the fields" in the film in 1964 "Welcome, or No Trespassing"). The moral code of the builder of communism (hence the "oblico morale") was studied in all schools and institutes, nobody canceled it, so everyone was clear then, unlike the current generation, the salt of this joke.

Humor and limitations

Any prohibitions and taboos thin out humor, like a blade exposed to a grindstone. Permissiveness and freedom to say anything under any circumstances lead to the directly opposite effect. In 1969 or 1970, in order to successfully beat the forbidden topic and not to pay anything for it (and the film could easily "put on the shelf"), it was required to strain the cognitive powers of the cerebral cortex both to the script writer and the director.

Thanks to the popularity of Italian neo-realism in the sixties, many foreign words became known to our fellow citizens. The Italian "Rousseau", "oblico morale", consisting of our "image" and international "morality" in translation did not need.

Today the product of this work has become just a common phrase, sounding fun and sonorous, but no more. It is still popular, especially since our compatriots go abroad more often than at the turn of the seventies. The simple band "Otpetye scammers" even had a song called "Obliko morale", about gay travelers who begin to rest "right at the station".
