MSC - what is it? Coefficient of Bonus-Malus for OSAGO

All owners of vehicles on the basis of the law "On compulsory insurance" are obliged to insure motor vehicles, i.e. Make out the policy of OSAGO. The Government of the Russian Federation approved tariffs for compulsory motor TPL insurance. There is a basic tariff and a set of coefficients that are used in calculating the price of the policy. We will not explain the significance of all the coefficients.

So, KBM - what is it? The bottom line is that if a driver drives on roads without an accident, then he deserves a privilege when drawing up an insurance contract. At the same time, with the help of this factor, the cost of the policy can be increased. This will happen in the event that the driver becomes an offender guilty of a traffic accident.

The subtleties of the Bonus-Malus coefficient

To better understand the meaning, the driver needs to know the following: The driver's MBM does not tie to your vehicle.

For example, you decided to sell a car and buy a new one. Bonus-Malus will remain until you sign a new agreement on OSAGO. They sold the car in June, and in July they bought a new one. The policy is valid until the end of the year. At the end of the year, when you make a contract, you will pay less. However, you wished to purchase a policy in July when you bought a new car. Under such conditions, you will not get a discount.

By the way, it's quite easy to learn the KMB. To do this, you need to use the PCA database.

If you have traveled for several years without violating traffic rules, you have accumulated a discount, and in the following year, OSAGO was not issued, the value of your coefficient will be stored in the database for another year, after which all your bonuses are reset.

KBM and the class of the insured

When it comes to MBM driver, the insurance agents use the definition of "Class of the insured". Below are the values of the MBM and the class of the policyholder for the drivers who make up the policy for the first time (these values should be taken as a reference point in the analysis of the table presented below):

  • KBM - 1.
  • The class of the insured is 3.

Let's say that during the year you have never been in an accident, so for a year of accident-free driving you will get a reduction of 0.5 points.

For example, you are a novice driver, when you design a policy for the first time you are assigned the Insurer Class 3, which corresponds to the Bonus-Malus 1 Ratio (it does not actually affect the base cost of insurance). During the second year of driving, the driver became a participant in an accident. The class of the insurer will decrease to the second, and the price of the policy will grow by 40%, i.е. The coefficient is 1.4.

Provided that during the next insurance period the driver will have a trouble-free ride, he will be able to return his 3rd class and the cost of the policy will decrease.

Under what conditions will the MSC of OSAGO grow?

Imagine that you have traveled for several years on the roads without committing an accident, so you have accumulated a discount. However, this year you become a participant in an accident and as a result lose all your bonuses. Such an outcome should be in the event that the victim in an accident will contact your insurance company and will demand compensation for damage. But! If you together with the victim solve the problem on the spot, then the discounts will be maintained.

Also keep in mind that the discount is not taken into account for those citizens who are registered in another state. Among other things, it is not taken into account when insuring trailers.

How is the cost of the policy calculated if it indicates several drivers?

If several drivers are included in the OSAGO policy, then the largest Bonus Malus is taken into account when determining its value.

For example, three people are included in the policy. At two drivers it is equal 0,8, and at the third - 0,9. The policy will be calculated from 0,9, the discount will be only 10%. If in the current year one of the drivers commits an accident, the coefficient will increase only for the violating driver, while for the others the figure will decrease by 5%.

The cost of the MTPL policy basically depends on the quality of the ride, and the main quality indicator is the Bonus-Malus. Therefore, when answering the question "What is this?", It is worth saying that this is a measurable reflection of the skills of driving a person. You obey the rules of the road and, as a consequence, you have a low coefficient, and therefore, big discounts when concluding an insurance contract.

Some drivers are insured under OSAGO for 6-9 months. When calculating the cost of such a contract, Bonus-Malus, which is equal to one, is taken for calculation. When extending the validity period of the policy, the value is maintained regardless of the company where the policy is made.

Basic conditions for the use of MBA

So, KBM - what is it? How is it calculated in different situations?

Policies of OSAGO are divided into two types, each of which has its own peculiarities.

  1. Limited type of insurance. In this type of insurance, the feature is that restrictions are imposed on the number of drivers who have the right to use this car. MSC will be calculated for each driver separately.
  2. Unlimited type of insurance. Under such insurance conditions, the number of drivers who have the right to drive is unlimited. The class of the policyholder and the Bonus-Malus value are determined only for the owner of the car and provided that the previous contract was of the same type, i.e. unlimited. If changes in the source data by the driver and by the car are detected, then the calculation of the cost of the policy will take into account the value of the MTPL of OSAGO equal to 1.

However, there are rules that apply to both agreements:

  • If you terminate the agreement with the company ahead of time, on your initiative, the discount on the contract value will not be valid for a period of time that is interrupted. This is explained by the fact that the validity period of the contract is one year, therefore, MSC is calculated on the basis of these conditions. All insurance cases that occurred in a period of less than a year will not take into account bonuses. When calculating, the values of the coefficients that were in effect at the time of the conclusion of the previous contract will be taken.
  • One insurance event is one insurance payment. The Bonus-Malus coefficient is considered from each payment separately, no matter how many people received the insurance payment.

In which case can the MSC be increased?

If the driver is listed in several policies, one of which has a "bad" history, then the value of the coefficient can be increased. In addition, the increase in MSC can be affected by the acquisition of a fake OSAGO policy.

The Bonus-Malus value for each insured is in the database of the Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RSA) or in the company where you executed the insurance contract. To find out what kind of MBM you have in the RSA database, you need to contact the insurance company where you registered the policy.

How can the MSC be reduced?

The calculation of the cost of the OSAGO policy is carried out according to a simple scheme - the base price is taken and multiplied by MBM. To reduce the Bonus-Malus coefficient, you must follow the following simple rules:

  1. Be attentive on the roads, ride without an accident.
  2. To bring in the policy of OSAGO drivers who have earned your confidence by driving have a positive driving experience and you are sure of their professionalism.

What if you are not sure about the correctness of the calculation of the MSC?

First, you need to conclude an insurance contract with the MSC that the insurer gives you, but which you question. Checking the MSC on the database does not take much time.

Further it is necessary to address in the Union of insurers with the complaint about illegal definition of MSC. To do this, you must prepare a number of documents:

  • Statement.
  • Copies of driver's licenses that are entered in the policy.
  • A copy of the previous insurance contract.
  • A copy of the current insurance contract.

If after the consideration of the complaint, your question is resolved positively, you have the right to conclude a new insurance contract with the return of the overpaid amount.

Summarize. MSC - what is it? In fact, this is an indicator of the quality of driving a person, thanks to which insurance companies can either make a good discount when registering a MTPL policy (if you traveled without an accident during the insurance period) or vice versa, increase the price of insurance (if you had an accident). Of course, it is most advantageous to insure the car for an experienced driver with a trouble-free ride.

Remember that this coefficient is fixed not for the car, but for the driver and is stored in the RSA database for a year. You can learn the MSC from the insurer, from whom you draw up the contract.
