Motorcycle Honda Fury: specifications and reviews

Do you remember those big choppers of the middle of 2000 with strange names, bizarre controls, stupidly built front, ridiculously oversized rear tires and a showy appearance, sold for the price of a small house? Honda Fury (photo is placed further in the article) is another. She just looks like that.

It's surprising that Honda, arguably the most conservative of all motorcycle manufacturers, has withstood the chopper-inspired Honda VT1300CX Fury model, which still finds enthusiastic buyers not only in the US, but throughout the world.

What's New

Launched in 2010, the Honda Fury motorcycle was different from anything the manufacturer had done before. And because it's Honda, the company spent a considerable amount of time studying this sector of the market before offering a motorcycle that, at first glance, came straight from the tuning world.

Marketing photos of the company do not allow you to appreciate the beauty of the Honda VT 1300 Fury. He actually looks much better in metal. Of course, this is not a real chopper, but still an interesting motorcycle that really goes much better than one can guess by its appearance.

Asceticism

So what does the buyer get for their money? It is clear that the equipment is very small. It's just a tuned motorcycle with a large V-engine, comfortable, with a low sitting and steering position. Practically everything.

Before being bent at 32 degrees with a high fastening of the steering column, which gives Honda Fury some similarity with the chopper. A narrow 12.8-liter fuel tank looks stunning, rushing down to the rider. The rear wing is shortened, and 21-inch tires and a flat black front wheel with nine spokes cover the front. One of the problematic points here is that many of the chrome parts of Fury, including the wings, are made of plastic.

Nevertheless, the slender individual features of the motorcycle provided a stunning seat height - only 68 cm, which will allow stopping motorcyclists of almost any height to put both feet on the road.

Bike for singles

Removable passenger saddle on the rear fender of Honda Fury user reviews for distances exceeding several kilometers, do not recommend to apply. He does not have a rail, and the passenger does not say thank you for the received feelings.

It's really a motorcycle for singles. And it provides an excellent driver's position, even if the seat seems too rigid. On the move, the legs do not stretch so far forward that the gear changes become difficult, and you can easily reach the rear brake with your toe of the right boot.

With a total weight of 300 kg (309 for the ABS model), one 336 mm front disc with two pistons and a 296 mm rear brake, the motorcycle is simply perfect. It's even better than I'd like. Of course, you can pay a little more and get an ABS version, but the standard bundle to customers, judging by the reviews, is excellent.

A mysterious stranger

The buyer will have to look for the name of the motorcycle, which is probably the reason why most people have no idea what it is when they first see the Honda Fury. But if you look closely, you can find a few Honda icons on the bottom of the motorcycle: one on the engine casing, and the other, with the inscription "Fury", is located on the rear fender.

Long front 45mm forks have a decent 10-centimeter stroke, absorbing a lot of bumps and roughness of the road surface, despite the narrow, almost bicycle front tire "Dunlop". Honda did a good job trying to provide a hard look from the rear, and managed to hide a single adjustable shock absorber (with five preload positions and a 9.4 cm stroke) under the large thick rear wing.

Color selection is limited to blue metallic for models without ABS or matt silver for versions with anti-lock system.

And the presence of a full line of accessories allows owners to produce a further tuning of "Fury" if they want to achieve additional individuality and uniqueness of their "iron horse".

Steering wheel

In the Honda Fury, the tuning also extends to the steering wheel, beautifully drawn to the driver. "Honda" tried to release before in a true chopper style, but there are still a few cables that, according to users, could be hidden or paved differently.

On the steering wheel there is an angular shape of a simple speedometer with indicators of oil pressure, water temperature and neutral. But there is no tachometer or even a fuel gauge, so it is necessary to follow the kilometer or constantly open the tank to be aware of how much fuel remains.

Honda Fury: engine specifications

The power provides a proven, water-cooled, 52-degree V-engine in volume of 1312 cm 3 , also used in the motorcycles "Stateline", "Saber" and "Interstate". About 132 kg / m of torque of this motor powerfully and evenly provide transmission of five speeds and power supply to the rear wheel and 200-mm tires.

Recommended engine oil for Honda Fury is the four-stroke Pro Honda GN4 or equivalent SG grades or higher by API viscosity of SAE 10W-30 viscosity class MA standard JASO T 903.

Two-edged sword

If the buyer is shy, he may not even think about buying a Honda Fury. The motorcycle does not suit him. Wherever it appears, people want to talk about it, sit on it or take pictures of it.

And yet this model is a kind of double-edged sword. On the one hand, the company built a motorcycle that looks amazing, but very few have ever seen it in metal or know that it exists. And when they are told that this is "Honda", they are very embarrassed. They know that the company makes great sports and very competent off-road motorcycles. Some are simply amazed that Honda also does Fury.

But, to all other, the bike is surprisingly good bike. Users who first saw the "Fury" may not be completely sure of this. The motorcycle looks too far-fetched, as if someone was struggling to make it seem like what it really is not.

But if you just throw your foot and sit down in its ultra-low seat, immediately everything becomes meaningful. Firstly, it's easy to ride a motorcycle. Its large V-shaped engine vibrates slightly at idle, as you would expect, but there are two counterweights that prevent a significant increase in vibration.

Riding

With 180 centimeters of wheelbase Honda Fury became the longest motorcycle manufacturer from today. In combination with a narrow front tire this does not allow you to feel confident at low speeds, and you have to be careful when parking. The advanced one does not facilitate low-speed maneuvering.

On the road, a thin tire and tilt do not provide the rider with a sufficiently good steering feel at speeds up to 30 km / h. But after a while, after the driver gets used to his "iron horse" and learns how he behaves at medium cruising speeds, which really matters, the motorcycle shows an excellent result.

He does not flop around corners, as one would expect from a chopper, and most users note that "Fury" is very easy to master. The steering at high speed is neutral and without surprises, there is a good overall feeling of stability. But a low landing does not provide sufficient ground clearance, because of which, when cornering, if too tilted, you can hit the road.

At a speed of over 80 km / h, the "Fury" behaves as if it merges with the highway. With a five-speed gearbox, the motorcycle rides as smoothly and smoothly as you would expect from any Honda cruiser.

Rear wheel

No problem, and with a large thick 200-millimeter "Dunlop" tire. It probably does not improve the performance of the rear suspension, but it's not a motorcycle on which someone would like to travel hundreds of kilometers a day. This is a cruiser and chopper, designed for trips on weekends. But first of all it's a motorcycle designed to go out on the road and have fun.

Tank

The gas tank should be looked after. In a literal sense. There is no fuel gauge. The manufacturer claims that the average gasoline consumption is 6.3 km / l (according to users, this value is slightly higher). Thus, we can expect that the mileage between gas stations will be only 250 km.

How often choppers mentioned at the beginning of this review looked extraordinary, but rode horrificly. Honda Fury 1300 - not such a motorcycle.

By some miracle, "Honda" managed to find a middle ground. As a result, the user gets the appearance of a chopper and a motorcycle that perfectly rides, predicts and does not fail at the first corner.

pros

Attractive appearance says that "Honda" was able to create a competent and very obedient cruiser. Despite the elongated forks, he, according to the owners, rides well and is really comfortable.

Riding a motorcycle brings joy. It is not too fast, but if someone wants to have an interesting motorcycle for trips on the weekend or someone likes to just go for a ride around the city on business, it will be a good choice.

Minuses

The owner of the motorcycle will pay attention to himself, and he will most likely have to put up with people who are constantly asking if the Fury is "Harley-Davidson."

To ensure a reliable, tuned motorcycle hit the market, Honda had to economize and abundantly use plastic (for example, front and rear wings) and chrome plated plastic on the engine cover.

Appearance required to sacrifice practicality. Although the fuel tank "Fury" is made beautifully and perfectly combined with the tuned appearance, with 12.8 liters filling stations will have to visit often.

Real choppers are made of iron and steel. But this does not justify the ugly welds on the "Fury", especially on the head of the frame. They can be attributed to the nature of the motorcycle, but this is not the quality of fit and finish that users are accustomed to expect from Honda.

Price

At a fair price of 9.999 US dollars, you can choose only blue metallic without ABS. For an additional $ 1000 you can get a version with an anti-lock system, but only a silvery color.

What else should I know about Honda Fury? User reviews say that there is nothing that would look like "Fury". Some will say that it resembles the interpretation of the chopper from the "Harley and Davidson" Rocket, but he quietly left the market in 2012. There is another alternative from the same manufacturer, Wide Glide, which, depending on the specification, is sold at a price of 15,000 to 15,729 US dollars.

There are many other motorcycles that ride, like the "Fury", but their manufacturers do not offer chopper style at this price.

What Others Say

According to the publication "Motorcycle USA", "Fury" as a chopper behaves well (perhaps even too well), and at a price of $ 10 thousand with this it is difficult to argue. So did the "steepness" become cheaper? Undoubtedly. And you can guarantee that many will buy this motorcycle. But the question is, who? Which generation will think that "Fury" is cool? It should be put on baby boomers going through a mid-life crisis ...

The Daily Telegraph notes that the Fury manages better than any chopper, with the most neutral steering and better stability at high speed, and in this respect surpasses many much less radical factory cruisers.

Verdict

Even today, a few years after the birth, "Fury" stands out from the line of motorcycles produced by Honda, as a bit eccentric and out of the ordinary. And this is good.

Like a Honda Fury motorcycle rides well, it's easy to drive and bring pleasure. As a cruiser, he does his job with a minimum of fuss and with a certain amount of charm. In addition, it has the famous reliability of the company Honda. For those who are looking for this type of motorcycle, the best is not worth looking for.
