Brake-reinforced hose: advantages and installation

The braking system of any vehicle is of paramount importance. It allows you to avoid dangerous situations while driving and therefore requires special attention. Like other parts, it is subject to wear during operation. Also cases of mechanical damage are not uncommon.

Description

One of the elements of the system is the reinforced brake hose, which differs from the usual rubber parts by the possibility of self-replacement. Its design includes a special polytetrafluoroethylene tube. The advantage of the material used is minimal wear during intensive operation and high reliability. There are also mixed products that combine modified rubber and polytetrafluoroethylene.

The outer side of the tube is covered with a metal sheath designed to prevent damage and increase strength. Some reinforced brake hoses for motorcycles Equipped with a mobile tube on a plastic base, used for additional protection against damage.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of polytetrafluoroethylene is a high resistance to aggressive environmental influences, in particular to the brake fluid, which is constantly in the hoses. In addition, it is completely sealed and does not let even moisture pass. As noted earlier, the material is less susceptible to wear, which makes the reinforced brake hose much less necessary.

The outer braiding of the parts prevents damage to the internal section during mechanical action and high pressure that occurs during braking. The metal is coated with a special compound and is resistant to corrosive phenomena. The operating temperature range is within wide limits and can reach +250 degrees. At the same time the reinforced brake hose retains its insulation characteristics and fracture toughness.

The usual rubber parts are much inferior to modern reinforced analogues. Among the main disadvantages is the following:

  • With time, the walls crack and the sealing is broken;
  • Possibly stratification of the material as a result of the influence of the brake fluid;
  • Short service life;
  • Change in the internal section due to the softness of the material;
  • Susceptibility to mechanical damage.

Installation

The production of reinforced brake hoses is possible under a certain model of the motorcycle, which greatly simplifies the installation. The design also includes steel fittings necessary for fixing products. They are selected individually and can have an internal and external thread, as well as a hole for fixing with a bolt. Flare fastening is necessary for fixing the fittings. Increased tightness is achieved using copper washers. They are necessary for sealing the fittings and parts of the brake system during installation. It is worth noting that if the length of the reinforced brake hose can be shortened with a grinder with a cutting disc. In its absence, you can use sharpened side cutters.
