Modern and jazz-modern dance. The history of modern dance

Modern (dances) appeared at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the States and Germany. In America, the name was associated with stage choreography, which resisted the standard forms of ballet. For those who danced modern, it was important to present a choreography of a new order, corresponding to the man of the new century and his spiritual needs. Principles of such art can be considered the denial of traditions and the transfer of new stories through unique elements of dance and plastics. In their long war with the cliché, the modern dancers could not completely abandon the traditional ballet forms. They came to terms with some technical techniques.

Occurrence

It is believed that modern is the dance that Isadora Duncan founded . She was inspired by nature and promoted freedom of movement, their spontaneity. The dance of Isadora was improvisation without special costumes and shoes with live music.

Another resource for the advent of modern dance is rhythmics, the Jacques-Dalcroze system. The Swiss teacher and composer interpreted music analytically and outside of emotional perception. Dance served as a kind of counterpoint. Already in his first productions Dalcroz gave himself up to the complete subordination of dance to music.

In response to him in 1928 was published the work of the Austrian choreographer R. Laban "Kinetografiya", where it was stated that the motion is justified by the inner world of the creator, and does not serve as a basis for music.

Further development: Kurt Yoss and Mary Wigman

Kurt Yoss, who was intimately familiar with Laban, was working on the creation of a new dance theater. In his arsenal were involved music, scenography, choral recitation. He was interested in theaters of mysticism and worship. All this was aimed at revealing the energy of the body movement. Yoss introduced new topics, for example, ballets on political topics. His case was continued by the student Mary Wigman. The woman found expression in expressionism, introducing into the modern (dances) a terrible and ugly, putting intense and dynamic productions, inclined to express universal human emotions.

After Wigman, thanks to her students, two main branches of dance development were formed. One showed expressionistic perception, subjective impressions of a dancer, a desire to uncover the unconscious, the true in a person. Representatives of this direction could express themselves in the so-called absolute dance. The second group was influenced by abstract art and constructivism. For dancers the form was not just an expressive means, but the content of the image.

Jazz-modern: dance of modern times

Later, a new trend arises - modern jazz, which now captivates with its inimitable contrast of white classics and black jazz.

Dancers use pas from classical ballet and broken movements from modern, waves from dances of latin and jumps from hip-hop, elements from a break. This does not create an eclectic effect, on the contrary, it helps the dancer fully express themselves in an energetic and plastic composition.

Jazz-modern is a dance that has a wide range of means of expression in its arsenal. Due to this, he is free and spectacular, does not limit the dancer in anything. Modern jazz is considered a difficult dance, because, in addition to technology, the performer needs strength, endurance, inspiration and clear thinking.

During classes, it is important to learn the techniques of tension / relaxation and isolation. Isolation is a technique in which parts of the body perform movements without being linked to each other. This requires additional training, looks particularly spectacular and delicious. The technique of isolation is associated with the ability to strain one part of the body and at the same time relax the other.

In the dance of modern jazz improvisation is important. The sensuality of modernity intertwines with the plastic of the classics, in combination with the rhythms of jazz, unique creations arise, the source of which is the soul of the choreographer. That's why jazz-modern (dance) found the name of the dance for special persons.

Popularity today

The history of modern dance has had a significant impact on classical patterns. Many choreographers of the twentieth century could not pass by the introduction of elements of Art Nouveau in their works.
