This is a universal device, which most of us are familiar from the dental office. For those who like to make homemade crafts, it will be interesting to ask how to make a drill with their own hands. This will be our article.

What is the device

Bormachina is a tool, the principle of which is based on the rotation of the shaft. This shaft is usually called a spindle. It rotates at a very high frequency, but the torque remains at a small value. Due to this, the tool is able to work on a small scale. As a rule, the revolutions can be adjusted. Due to this, the range of work performed increases. If we talk about factory options, they come with a set of additional drills, knives and other attachments. If you make a dumper with your own hands, then such a set can be bought separately in the shops of the city or make an order through the online store.

Purpose and scope of the instrument

Wide range of application of drills. They are used in dentistry, industry (in particular, in instrument making), for carving on wood or bone, in the manufacture of jewelry.

This limit is at a high level, but it exists. In this case, the collector variant is simpler in manufacturing and use than brushless. And the price is lower.

The brushless motor, in turn, has a number of advantages. It has a more complex electrical circuit, but it allows you to perform additional functions. This type of speed is at a higher level. Adjust the speed is easier. Regardless of its value, the torque is maintained at the desired level. Thanks to this, even at low speeds, the nozzle will not be braked during contact with the surface of the part. These characteristics should be taken into account when creating a drill with their own hands.

Drill from the engine of the washing machine

The simplest option for making a drill with a flexible shaft by hand is the use of an engine from a washing machine. Its functions will be minimal, but they will be enough for many users. The peculiarity of this variant is that the engines of washing machines have small revolutions. In most cases this value does not exceed 10 thousand.

To begin with, the engine itself needs to be fixed to a table or other frame. You can even on a piece of plywood, so that the tool can be moved. The motor is electric, so you need to provide a connection to the network.

A flexible shaft is attached to the motor shaft. To do this, you can use a rubber pulley, which, among other things, will protect the shaft from damage during operation. A drill with a hand drill is another interesting option. Functionality in this case will be much higher. This is due to the fact that most often the electric drill has a rotation frequency in the region of 3 thousand revolutions.

The drill is best clamped in the vice. To do this, you need to make a simple device on one side of which will be installed a drill. The second end will be fixed in a vice. In this case, it is necessary to provide an abutment in which one end of the flexible shaft will be fixed.

As a flexible shaft, you can use a cable in the braid, for example, from the speedometer of the car. It will need a plain bearing and a collet. But the easiest way to order in the store is a ready-made hose, the quality and durability of which will be much higher than that of homemade ones. In this case, it will not be necessary to adjust the shaft to the drill. In the event that the drill chuck can not hold the edge of the hose, it will be necessary to shorten the cup with the thread on its end.

If you buy a flexible shaft ready, then for the manufacture of the drill with your own hands, you will only need to prepare the fastener. Another advantage of this option is the collet clamp, which will be on the hose, suitable for standard booms (they can be purchased at the store).

Drill made of blender

With your own hands, you can assemble a tool using a variety of electric motors. A submersible blender is no exception. The principle is the same as when using an electric drill.

To start work, you need to open the housing to get to the rotor shaft. For connection with a flexible shaft, it is necessary to make an adapter, which will be fixed with a bolt. An example of it can be seen in the photo above.

The use of a flexible shaft is not necessary. You can do without it. In this case, it is necessary to prepare a cartridge, which will securely be fixed to the blender shaft. The collet is attached to the same cartridge.

Small models

To perform work on a miniature scale, it is convenient to use a mini-drill. With his hands, the small tool is handy to hold, it is light and does not "tear off" hands during work.

The electric motor based on permanent magnets DPM-25 is taken as the basis of the considered variant. They exist with different indicators and differ in the speed of rotation. Therefore, you can choose the appropriate option. You can also use the engines DPM-30 and with other capacities.

We take a piece of pipe. In this case, a part is taken from the vacuum cleaner tube, which goes to a taper (so that the engine sticks better). Its length is chosen so that it is convenient to hold in hands. Next, you need a shrink tube (in this case with a diameter of 32 mm). Its length should correspond to the length of the engine. Heat shrinkable tubing must be worn over the motor. To do this, it needs to be warmed up with a hair dryer (from the center to the edges). This is done in order for the engine to sit tightly in the pipe. Instead, you can use electrical tape.

In the metal tube it is necessary to make a hole in order to stretch the electric wire. The seat can be cut from a plastic bottle or baby soap bubbles. The wires are connected to the button (best soldered). Then all the details are collected together. As a power source, a step-down transformer is used.

A machine made by own hands will allow performing various functions. Perhaps, in terms of its functionality, it will differ from the factory models, but it will certainly cost much cheaper.
