Methods of subordinate communication

A subordinate connection is a connection that exists between two or more unequal syntactical words in a sentence or phrase, in the case where one of them is considered the principal, and, respectively, the other is dependent. The subordinate link in the sentence exists between the main and subordinate clauses. In this article we will talk about the word combination and the main methods of subordinate communication.

A word-combination is a logical combination of two or more words, which are related grammatically and in meaning. It is known that the phrase serves to more clearly describe the objects and their signs, as well as the actions that they perform.

In word combinations, the dependent word is associated with the main word in several ways. So, the methods of subordinate communication include:

1) agreement;

2) management;

3) contiguity.

This classification of methods is based on what part of the speech expresses the dependent word in the phrase. Consider each of the above methods in more detail.

Methods of subordination: coordination

The name of the relationship is called the coordination , when the dependent word is coordinated with the principal and is likened to this word in form, that is, it is put in the same number, gender and case as the main word, and changes when it changes. For example: What a wonderful day! The main goal of our meeting is to discuss the important issue of appointing a new director.

Phrases with this method of communication can be very easily found in the text, if one does not forget that the dependent word can be a variable part of the speech (adjective, possessive, relative, indicative, definitive, negative pronoun, full participle, ordinal, noun) , Which is consistent with the main word in the category of number or case. Nouns do not change in the nouns, so this sign can not influence the harmonization in such phrases as mother teacher, house-new building, and others.

From adjectives and participles that participate in the coordination, it is necessary to distinguish substantivized words that form control.

Methods of subordinate communication: management

Management is the kind of subordinate connection in which the dependent word is put in the case, which is due to the lexical and grammatical meanings of the main word. In this case, the dependent word, as a rule, is a noun or any other part of speech that performs its functions. The main words are a verb, a noun, an adjective, a number in the accusative or nominative case, an adverb or a word in the category of states.

So, under management, the dependent word answers the question of indirect cases, for example: remember history - remember (what?), Protect a person - guard (whom?) And so on. It is important to remember that the sign of control will always be a pretext.

Methods of subordinate communication: adjacency

Adjoining is the third type of subordinate connection, in which the dependence of a word is expressed lexically, intonation and the order of words. Only immutable parts of speech, such as the infinitive, the adverb, the comparative degree of the adjective, the vertebrate, the possessive pronoun, can adjoin. It is these words that will indicate contiguity. In principle, the very word "adjacency" speaks for itself: the dependent word adjoins, that is, explains the main thing.

In such a phrase, the main word can be a verb (clearly understood), a noun (Turkish coffee), an adjective (very understandable), an adverb, a girlish (slightly tilted).

Communication in phrases with an infinitive is also regarded as an adjunction. For example, please write down, I want to see, and similar.

And, finally, a small "crib", which will help to identify the method of subordinate communication more quickly:

- when agreed there are three requirements of the main word to the dependent - number, gender, case;

- under control from the main word there is one requirement - case;

- with contiguity, the main word can not demand anything.
