MAZ-6317: specifications, description and reviews

In the last 10 years of the last century, the Minsk Automobile Plant started the production of the MAZ 6317 truck, which was positioned as a machine for the army (which did not prevent the modifications of this car from appearing on the civilian market). Perhaps the fault of the collapse of the Union, but this car Belarus began to produce, as an answer KAMAZ version - truck 44118.

Having experience in developing our own trucks (5335), special problems in the production of the machine should not have been. She received three axles, four-wheel drive on all wheels and, as is customary in army versions, reliability and simplicity. However, with the last car there are problems. The prototype of the car was its own dump truck 5551, the release of which was mastered in 1985. During the development of a military truck, no special experiments were conducted. And in the beginning of 1990 the first experienced army MAZ-6317 came out of the factory, the characteristics of which we will consider in this review.

Description

What associations do you call the word "jeep"? Most likely, you represent a cross-country vehicle, which can be attributed to the class of cars. Nevertheless, the transport described today can also call itself a jeep. But here's the car - it's unlikely. This car was developed by the Minsk plant initially as a military option, but "demand generates supply." Therefore, the modified MAZ 6317 fell in love not only with the siloviki.

The car has three axles, four-wheel drive on all wheels according to the 6x6 formula, and also a sufficiently high ground clearance that allows to cross shallow rivers. The machine feels comfortable on any terrain, allowing you to deliver goods and personnel to the most inaccessible places.

Application

Due to its military purpose, the car acquired some details that you rarely find on ordinary transport. For example, a winch. The power is more than 100 kN. Although it is located under the body of the car, the hitch on the cable is pulled back. It can work automatically (based on an electric motor) or in a manual mode. In addition to the existing, at the request of the customer, you can install a second winch - in front.

Having a considerable own weight and a good motor (about which below), MAZ 6317 has found its application at airfields. He was hauling airplanes. It was used in the Ministry of Emergency Situations (as a fire truck) and in other places where it is required to travel along a track up to 70 cm. Or where roads leave much to be desired. From military application it is possible to note the chassis with installation of volley fire. Because of him, the car was nicknamed "Belarusian GRAD". Recall that the original complex is mounted on the chassis of the truck "URAL".

At the same time, the Belarusians went further than the Russian version. On one chassis, two complexes can work, without interfering with each other.

Other Features

In appearance of the standard on-board variant, it is not immediately possible to call it a military man. This is an ordinary truck with a high awning that is painted either in pure green or in "khaki". However, the basic color solution also repeats this palette. And unlike other on-board cars, the tent car gets right away at the factory. The features include also a disengageable differential of the rear wheels and one interesting development, which is used only on this model - manual pumping of the fuel system. Access to it is located near one of the tanks. Of course, there is a staff, but as you know, to get to it, you need to raise the cabin.

Also, the difference can be attributed to the fact that only the tailgate reclines, and inside there are special bouts. Apparently, in order to make it easier for soldiers to climb into the body. It should be noted that the height of the floor is 1.5 m above the roadway, so that the handrails would be at hand (in the basic version there are none). In addition to the above winch, the military variant also has an electric and pneumatic outlet for connecting trailers. Separately note the steering wheel, when you look at that recalls Kamaz 43118. The large diameter and thin rim for a low driver will be a real problem. Despite such an ancient age of the car, there is a separate adjustment of the seatback and the driver's seat, as well as the steering column.

Fuel parameters

Hearing about the full drive and military application, many will wonder: how much does this MAZ 6317? The fuel consumption of this truck is 45 l / 100 km. But Minsk solved this issue. First, as with any such model, we have the option of turning off the all-wheel drive, and secondly, the car has two tanks. Switching between them is carried out from the cockpit with a special crane. The total capacity is 550 liters.

Modifications

The new Minsk car attracted not only the military. As already mentioned, the machine was also used in industry. Although unlike cars purely civil, there was not much choice - at the base anyway lay a military truck, but with another body. For the sake of justice it is worth noting that on the basis of this car there were also other modifications:

  • MAZ 63171 - the same bortovik, but with an increased body volume. According to different data, indicate the option from 30 to 33 cu. L.
  • MAZ 63172 (aka 631708 or 631710). It is this development that has become completely civil. The plant introduced it in 1994. To increase the load capacity, the rear axles received doubled wheels. Practically speaking, all industrial variants were produced on the basis of this model.
  • 5316 - this machine, although it looks different, still applies to the branch 6317. The 4x4 wheel formula has become a light version of its parent. Carrying capacity - up to 6 thousand kg.
  • 6425 - under this index was produced a truck tractor. The usual cross, which was popularly called the "saddle," and the power of a heavy military truck. Sometimes this model was installed and a large windshield.
  • MAZ 6517 completes the line of civil vehicles related to the branch 6317. The body of the dump truck, the wheel formula 6x6, four-wheel drive, etc.

On the basis of these several options, machines were produced that could be bought by any enterprise, not just military or security agencies.

Technical specifications

Before proceeding to the consideration of the data, it is worth mentioning that the ability to convert a truck to the "GRAD" installation ultimately saved the MAZ 6317 line. The technical characteristics of the model were perfect when it came to the question of modernization of the facilities that were delivered to the republic. Also worth noting that at one time the car, raising 11,000 kg, was much superior to the giant of the Soviet car industry, assembled in Kremenchug - KrAZ, for all its power, could take just 9,500 kg of cargo.

In addition to the already mentioned 2 tanks, the military truck was equipped with the following equipment:

  • The power plant YaMZ 65863, which meets the Euro 4 standard with a capacity of 330 liters. from.
  • The diesel engine could accelerate the car to 80 km / h.
  • 9 MKPP of the same Yaroslavl plant - YaMZ 239.
  • The body volume is 27 cubic meters. L., Area - 16 square meters. M.
  • Spring-balancing suspension.
  • Round headlights and a windshield divided into two parts were installed according to the requirements of the military.

Now let's see what people say about the truck MAZ 6317. Reviews of owners of the civilian version sometimes note the absence of a winch (it is completed only military models.) Many experts emphasize a good soundproofing cab, a wide bed: one or two. They also note good maneuverability when driving on rough terrain.

The military also points to the excellent permeability of the MAZ 6317. The reviews mention a powerful motor. The good springs are written mostly by those who experienced the "Belarusian GRAD" in the exercises. From recoil the machine strongly swings. This opinion forced the developers to slightly change the design of the new chassis for an anti-aircraft installation. Behind the back under the body appeared two hydraulic paws, lifting the rear axle above the ground, during the use of the installation.

Conclusion

As some military say, this truck has the patency of an average tank, but moves much faster. And, although there is no version of the clean chassis at the plant, nevertheless, thanks to the development for anti-aircraft installations, truck cranes, manipulators, isothermal bodies and even car lifts were put on this machine.
