Main characteristics and size of GVL sheets

One of the most convenient building materials used for indoor work is a gypsum-fiber sheet. GVL is used for the purpose of wall sheathing, protection and cladding of structural elements.

Gypsum fiber is an analogue of gypsum board, but it has better performance characteristics. Due to the homogeneous structure, this material is characterized by higher strength and reliability.

The difference between gypsum plasterboard and gypsum plasterboard

In the first place gipsovolokno has better strength characteristics in comparison with gypsum cardboard. Due to this property GWL has a wider scope and is used in cases where the reliability and rigidity of the partition is required. In addition, the high viscosity of the material makes it possible to saw the canvas practically without waste, and also to screw screws without a dowel.

In addition, the homogeneous structure gives the material good wear resistance and increased resistance to mechanical damage. Therefore, sheets of GVL are often used as a substrate for overlapping or dry screed. This method of arrangement allows qualitatively and without excess dirt to level the floor surface. A correctly matched size of GVL-sheets will not only speed up the work, but also significantly reduce the cost of the material.

Disadvantages of gypsum fiber web

The increased stiffness of the material has its own disadvantage: making structures with curved shapes is rather difficult in this case. The strength of a gypsum sheet for bending is rather small even in the wet state, therefore, unlike gypsum board, the use of this building material in curly structures is limited.

Important is the cost and GVL. Price per sheet of gypsum fiber is slightly higher than that of gypsum board. However, this disadvantage is compensated by better performance characteristics and a longer service life.

Advantages of gypsum-fiber sheet before other finishing materials

Due to its composition, which does not contain synthetic components, GVL-linen, as well as gypsum board, is absolutely environmentally friendly material.

Gypsum fiber sheet has a high level of sound and heat insulation. And due to the hygroscopic nature of the material in the room with a GVL sheet finish, the optimum humidity for humans is always maintained.

Excellent fireproof properties allow the use of GVL as a protection of wood and other fire-hazardous structures.

GVL canvas can easily be sawed with an ordinary hacksaw or jig saw. Therefore, this construction material can be used to construct almost any configuration.

Another advantage of GWL is the ease of transportation and installation of construction materials. The relatively small weight of even the overall sheets allows the installation of the canvas by one or two people. At the same time, the work is carried out in the shortest possible time without any loss of quality.

Moisture resistant gypsum fiber sheet

Despite the fact that the gypsum fiber is hygroscopic enough and absorbs moisture from the air well, today the producers of this building material produce a special waterproof appearance. Gypsum fiber sheets moisture-proof (GVLV) can be used in rooms with high humidity, for example in a bathroom or a bathroom.

This material is easy to determine even in appearance: as a rule, the sheets have a greenish or grayish hue. For additional protection, it is often treated with various antiseptic and moisture resistant agents.

Typical dimensions of sheets ГВЛ

Regardless of the manufacturer, the size of GVL sheets has standard values, which facilitates the installation and adjustment of plates for various types of structures. For more convenience, all parameters are presented in the form of a table.

Size of gypsum sheets
Dimension Size in mm
Thickness 10; 12.5; 15; 18; 20
Width 500; 1000; 1200
Length 500; 2000; 2500; 2700; 3000

For private construction, small format sheets 1500 x 1200 mm with a thickness of 10 or 12.5 mm are mainly used. This is the most convenient option for mounting limited tools. This size GVL-sheets allows you to quickly and accurately align the walls, create internal partitions, niches and curtain walls, even alone.

More dimensional linens GVL are used for finishing large areas and industrial premises. The size of GVL sheets in 2500 x 1200 mm and more assumes the attraction of additional working hands and is used as a building material by professional brigades.

Application of GWL

Due to their good performance characteristics, gypsum sheets in construction are used for wall sheathing, erecting partitions and creating various structures, and also as a dry floor screed:

  • Mainly gipsovolokno used for decoration and construction in residential and industrial buildings with normal and low humidity;
  • If there is good ventilation, it is permissible to use this building material in the basement and attic rooms.
  • For bathrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and other rooms with a high moisture content in the air, it is recommended to use moisture-resistant GVL-cloth;
  • Excellent frost resistance makes it possible to apply gypsum fiber for covering the walls of economic buildings - garages, sheds and other unheated buildings;
  • To ensure fire protection of walls and structural elements, a gypsum-fiber sheet is also used; The use of this material is especially important if it is supposed to work with wooden structures, since in this case it is not necessary to apply adhesive solutions.

Cost of gypsum sheets

Depending on the manufacturer GVL, the price per sheet may be slightly different. Another factor affecting the cost is the sales region and, of course, the size of the sheet. The estimated cost of typical plates (1500 x 1200 mm, 2500 x 1200 mm) varies between 390-600 rubles.

In this case, a gypsum-fiber sheet from a Russian manufacturer, as a rule, is cheaper. However, many professionals are urged not to economize on this material and purchase for construction expensive, but at the same time better quality GVL imported.
