"Life on loan": a summary. "Life on loan", Remark: characterization of heroes, main idea and feedback

The famous German writer, the author of the novels "Three Comrades", "The Arc de Triomphe" and many other remarkable works, was able, like nobody else, to speak about the most tragic aspects of life simply and concisely. The inevitability of death, the price of true love, is devoted to Remarque's books. The summary of one of them, "Life on loan", is the topic of this article.

Life and death

The main heroine of this novel is a twenty-four-year-old girl named Lillian. She is terminally ill. The last years of her life are connected with a man who can hardly understand it. Lillian throws money into the wind. He is his own life. The girl in stock is very little. He has a whole life. He is not afraid to lose her and most of all he likes to play with death. The summary ("Life on loan") should begin with a description of the life of the main characters.

Lillian

It's not so easy to read a novel or watch a feature film about a person who is terminally ill. But the summary ("Life on loan") for some reason causes a desire to get acquainted with the original of this work. Lilian Dunkern suffers from an incurable form of tuberculosis. Last years the girl spends in a sanatorium, which is located in one of the most picturesque places in the world - in the Alps. But how can one enjoy the beauties of nature when death is very near? Is it possible to spend the last few years in quiet seclusion, when the real life is bubbling outside the clinic?

The summary ("Life on loan") may not reveal the nature of the main female image, but will make you think about the age-old questions about why a person comes to this world and what he feels when enjoying the greatest gift is not very long. How can one "survive" a man who is only twenty-four years old and above all he wants to live, in the full sense of the word?

Lillian accepted her diagnosis. All that she hopes is to experience as many bright impressions as possible in recent years. And suddenly a forty-year-old racer appears on her way.

They have much in common. But later it turns out that his views are very different from her thoughts. And this is not surprising, because he is healthy ...

Clerfe

In order to depict the tragic fate of a dying girl as brightly as possible, he introduced the image of the racer Erich Maria Remarque into the novel. "Life on loan," a summary of which is presented in this article, is devoted to a small period in the life of Clerfe and Lillian.

The novel begins with the moment when the racing driver, heading to the sanatorium, in order to visit his friend, meets on the way an unpleasant, in his opinion, a man. In the company with this person is a young woman. Later, Clerfe's acquaintance with this person would change all his plans.

Soul mates

This young woman is Lillian. Later, visiting her friend Helman's sanatorium, Clairef acquainted with the girl. For what in his novel depicted the interweaving of the destinies of so different people Erich Maria Remarque? "Life is borrowed," the summary of which does not include quite important quotations from the work, perhaps, does not provide an answer to this question. The fact is that at the first meeting Lillian decided that Clerfe was that person who could understand her. And only much later, outside the sanatorium, her cynical attitude to life will be shaken.

But now, being in the walls of a comfortable hospital, she only dreams of one thing. Lillian understands that she has very little left. And she dreams of the last, brightest flash in her life. Acquaintance with the young racing driver adds confidence in the implementation of her plan.

They look alike. Both Lillian and Claref have no future. He lives until the next car race. She is until the next bleeding.

What is the summary of Remarque's Life on the Loop? The story of a young woman who burns through the last years of her life, and a rider who has been given a lot, but he is not able to appreciate it. What does not give a brief introduction to the book "Life on loan"? About how the German writer talentedly combined in his work the fate of two different people, and with the help of this psychological method forcing readers around the world to think about the main value of man - about life. Reviews from this book are unambiguous. For half a century, Remarque's novel does not leave indifferent readers. This work is translated into all European languages. On the basis of it was taken not one feature film.

Life in Montana

At the invitation of his new acquaintance, Lillian leaves the sanatorium. But first we must say what determines this reckless act. Lilian did not want to live in the hospital in recent years. But to leave her walls, she lacked determination. Besides, her friend was always there, the same, unpleasant by the eyes of Clairef, lord. His name was Boris Volkov. As for Lillian herself, one should say a few words about her life before the treatment in the sanatorium.

In this work Remarque depicted the post-war years. "Life on loan", a brief summary of which will follow, is a story about a girl whose fate in the fate of the war played a fatal role. Lillian is Belgian. She miraculously managed to escape from the fascists. But the constant malnutrition during the war for her health did not pass without a trace.

Careful highly qualified doctors work at the sanatorium. Staying here, the patient can hope that with the help of specialists his life will last for several years. But in the air of this institution there is the smell of death.

Clerfe gives flowers to Lillian, and in them she recognizes those who put her dead girlfriend on the coffin. The racing driver on the first day of arrival walks through the territory of the hospital and is near the entrance to the crematorium. All this leads to the fact that Clerfe invites Lillian to go with him to Paris. The girl, of course, accepts this offer. And from this episode it is necessary to give a more detailed description of the short content ("Life on loan"). Erich Remark, however, is a master of dialogues. The idea of it can not be fully understood without reading the work in full content.

In Paris

In the French capital, Clerfe and Lillian are sent on his racing car. In Paris, they stop at the first hotel they come across. In the city lives a relative of the girl - an eighty-year old man named Gaston. This person is located in the money, which by law is due to Lillian. Feeling the unique smell of freedom, about which she so long dreamed, while in the alpine sanatorium, the girl goes to her relative.

After receiving the money, Lillian is going to spend them to the right and left. She goes to the most fashionable and expensive stores, buys an unthinkable amount of dresses. In the restaurant it is ordered exotic dishes and elite wines. Gaston, being a witness of such extravagance, comes into perplexity. But he does not know anything about the illness of his young relative, and she, in turn, does not want to darken the mood of sad news.

Why Remarque called his work "Life on loan"? The novel, whose brief content is the theme of this article, depicts the psychological state of a person close to death. There is an opinion that it is in this state that people are able to understand the main thing in their lives and see what is not healthy.

Female Teenager

At first, after the sanatorium, Lilian Clerfe sees a spoiled, overly demanding teenager. He leaves Paris. And Lillian will not know when he comes back. Before him is a beautiful, confident young woman. And Clairef falls in love.

In the novel there is another female image - Lydia Morelli. This woman is the lover of Clerfe, but in vain he hopes to see in the behavior of Lillian any signs of jealousy. Life for this girl is too expensive. She has no opportunity to waste her feelings and affection for another person.

In Rome

On one of the races, Clerfe is injured. But, despite this, he still continues to participate in the competition. It was at this point that Lillian realizes that she will not be able to hold back the feelings she feels for Clairef. And she leaves Paris.

In the capital of Italy, Lillian spends time in the same spirit, visiting restaurants and theaters. She seeks at all costs to receive from life what she has missed over the years of illness. And in the maelstrom of impressions and new acquaintances she does not attach importance even to the fact that her scarf became quite scarlet with blood.

Death of Clerfe

For those days, which Lillian was absent in Paris, the racing driver did not find a place. He was waiting for a telegram from his lover or any other news. And when she returned, the first thing he did was to marry him. Lillian denied Clerfe. And later she decided not to do anything about him. Too hopeless, they seemed to her, considering the incurable disease. But Lilian did not have time to announce Clerfe's rupture. By the cruel irony of fate, a man got into a car accident and died without regaining consciousness.

After Clerfe's death, Lillian returned to the sanatorium. But I lived only a month and a half.
