Libyan footballer Gaddafi Saadi: biography and photos

It is rare to meet professional athletes of royal blood. In Libya, there is a unique football player named Gaddafi Saadi, the son of Muammar Gaddafi.

About family

Each state always has a ruler. Libya was no exception. For 22 years the country was ruled by Muammar Gaddafi. He was married twice, and from these marriages eight children were born. The first son of Muhammad Qaddafi was born in 1970 from his first marriage with a schoolteacher who was fleeting, and after the birth of his son Muammar divorced his first wife. In the same year, the Libyan leader marries a second time on the nurse Safiya Farkash. From this marriage, seven children were born to Gaddafi, sons: Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, Saadi Gaddafi, Ganibal Muammar Gaddafi, Mutazzim Bil Gaddafi, Saif Al-Arab Gaddafi, Khamis Gaddafi, and Aisha Gaddafi's daughter. He also had two foster children - nephew of Milad Abuztaya Gaddafi and daughter Hannah. All the children of Gaddafi received a good education and at the time of his father's tenure held high leadership positions in the country. Most of them were officers of the Libyan army.

President of the Football Federation

Ironically, the third-born Saadi was not like all his relatives. While his brothers and sisters were studying, they were making careers of military men, officials and oil traders, the third son of Gaddafi Saadi spent days watching football. In the greatest delight he brought the Italian championship. After watching the games of the stars of that time, Gaddafi Saadi, the son of Mammar Gaddafi, could afford to spend the rest of the day playing the ball in a personal stadium near the house. However, the father who provided him with all this, did not share his passion for football, he wanted his son to hold a high office, like his brothers. But Saadi did not show any interest in it. Therefore, his father had no choice but to appoint him the head of the football federation of Libya. That's how Gaddafi Saadi became the new leader of Libyan football.

"Al-Ahli" is fighting for the championship

By the age of 27 Saadi Gaddafi began to embody his childhood dream - to become a professional player. Libya was never a football country, and the championship of Libya was of little interest to anyone. Therefore, after talks with his father Saadi, Gaddafi begins to intensively develop this sport in his country. In parallel, satisfying his game ambitions, he becomes a football player of the club "Al-Ahli." Maybe this team did not really need to strengthen the position of the attacker in the face of the president of the Football Association, but, since the president ordered, it means that it is necessary. A unique case! So becomes president of the federation of football and player in one person Saadi Gaddafi. Photos with the son of the ruler were then in all the newspapers.

I would especially like to note how the matches took place with the participation of the son of the ruler of Libya. Around the player himself, there were always many bodyguards who accompanied him everywhere. On the perimeter of the field stood soldiers armed with submachine guns, and on each podium sat several snipers. Only on the field did Saadi have a guard.

Now Saadi Gaddafi-football wanted trophies and medals. He decided to start with the championship of his country. And Al-Ahli is starting to struggle for the championship, and this is helped by the president-football player, who scored 3 goals in 24 matches of the 2000-2001 season. The apogee of this season was the final match, winning that Al Ahli could become the champion in the event of a victory over Al Ittihad. In that confrontation, a penalty was awarded, a goal from which could bring victory to Saadi Gaddafi's team, but history knows many examples when players in simple situations do not score the most important goal in the championship, and maybe even in their life. So it happened with Saadi. Gaddafi missed, did not score, and the team so more and could not win. Result: deserved second place in the season of 2000-2001. But still the dream of trophies began to come true little by little, and with "Al-Ahli" Saadi Gaddafi won the goblet and the Super Cup of Libya.

In the future, experts noted that as a football player Saadi was not very good. He did not have any specific talents, and he did not have good physical training. However, he immediately became a full-time penaltist and specialist in penalties.

Famous specialists in technical and physical training

After playing in "Al-Ahli", Saadi thought about improving his skills as an attacker. And it did not occur to him to think how to hire personal instructors to help him sharpen his technical skills and raise his speed and endurance to a new level. Without thinking for a long time, Saadi Gaddafi chose for himself the teacher of the famous Diego Maradona and former Canadian athlete Ben Johnson. In parallel, Saadi moved to Al-Ittihad.

Classes with experienced instructors gave their result, and Saadi Qaddafi improved his statistics scorer, scoring 19 goals in the 2001-2002 season, and finally won the championship of Libya. Thus, he became the best scorer of this season. In total, the club "Al-Ittihad" had 70 matches and scored 20 times. In the 2002-2003 season Al-Ittihad again won the championship and wins the Super Cup of Libya.

Starting to score, Saadi Gaddafi hinted to the coach of the national team of Libya that he is a good reinforcement for the team. It's time to try it on the international arena. The coach did not particularly resist, called Gaddafi Jr. in the team and appointed him captain of the team.

Birkirkara

Being ambitious, Saadi Qaddafi decides that it's time for him to fight for European trophies. And in 2003 he made the transition to the Maltese football club "Birkirkara". Not having played a single match, Saadi Gaddafi moves to Italy.
Here Saadi gave free rein to all human vices. A lot of alcohol, drugs and promiscuous connections, all this led to a violation of the sports regime and deterioration of the physical form. It's no secret that if even a football player with a capital letter began to lead such a way of life, he would quickly lose his strength, and Saadi, apparently, had nothing to lose.

Before the European tour began, in 2002 he organized the Italian Super Cup in Tripoli. From this event, the Italian Football Federation received generous royalties. Also Saadi met Silvio Berlusconi.

Saadi's investment in football clubs

In addition, Gaddafi acquires shares of several Italian football clubs, such as Juventus and Triestina. And he begins to build his assets in this area. In "Juventus" Saadi beat himself a seat on the board of directors. And even there was a rumor about his transfer to the "old seigneur", but, apparently, this turned out to be beyond the power of Gaddafi. Also aware of the attempt to acquire shares of "Lazio" - in the future Saadi Gaddafi himself will abandon this idea. He failed to acquire shares of English football grandees Manchester United and Liverpool, shares of the Greek PAOK also did not become the property of Gaddafi Saadi. After an unsuccessful career in Malta, many ordeals led the captain of the Libyan team to a modest Perugia.

Probably, then Saadi Qaddafi was the happiest in the world, at last the dream of his life - the debut in "Serie A" - was to come true. But even here there were complexities. Saadi Gaddafi is caught in doping in 2003. He took the test after a match in which he was a spare and did not even take part. The team's management stated that Saadi was taking the prohibited drug to get rid of back pain. But the doping commission did not convince, and Saadi Qaddafi was assigned 3 months of disqualification. After serving the removal, the player entered the field in the "Perugia" once, than fulfilled his childhood dream.

"Udinese"

In 2005 Saadi Qaddafi moved to Udinese, who fought for the right to play in European competition, where he met the coach who worked with him in Perugia. Starting the season on the bench, Gaddafi announces the completion of a professional player's career due to the fact that he must lead a secret service in his homeland. But whether the passion for football, or lack of leadership skills forced the son of the ruler of Libya to return to football. And 3 months after his departure, Saadi continued his career in Udinese. On the field, he did not go out until the last match of the championship of the season 2005-2006, in which the coach still released him in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Sampdoria

The next team of the Libyan football player was Sampdoria, whose owner dreamed of building an oil business in Libya. Saadi never appeared on the field as part of the Genoese. Apparently, the negotiations did not lead to anything. Saadi Qaddafi was already 34 years old, the age in which many players are beginning to think about the end of his career, so the son of the ruler of Libya so decided. Realizing that his football achievements are more than modest, he decided to end his sports career.

Life without football

Returning to his homeland, Gaddafi Saadi returned to his former job as head of the federation of football. In parallel, he began to engage in a business that never brought him anything but losses. Meanwhile, civil war broke out in the country, all the opposition took up arms at Saadi. He was accused of murdering the well-known football player and coach Al-Riadi, which happened even during his playing for Udinese. Al-Riadi was unflattering in the past about the skills of Saadi's game and skeptical about his father's regime. Disappeared in 2005, and was later found dead.

On a pencil to the international police, former football player Gaddafi Saadi was in 2011, when he issued orders to severely suppress the uprising in Benghazi. In addition, he was also charged with illegally appropriating the property of the federation of football and fraud in especially large amounts.

After the death of his father, the former Libyan football player Saadi Gaddafi fled to Niger, where he lived for several years. After all the charges brought against him, he was extradited to the new authorities of Libya. At this time, along with his brothers, is in a Libyan prison and awaits a verdict.
