Lecithin. Harm or benefit?

Lecithin is a substance rich in phospholipids. In addition to them are also included: B group vitamins, phosphodiesterylcholine, choline, linolenic acid, inositol, phosphates. This substance is produced in the liver of the body and has a fat-like consistency. Lecithin is found in the following foods: sunflower oil, as well as peas, lentil kernels, egg yolk, corn kernels (which have already germinated), beef, lamb and pork.

The human body contains the right amount of lecithin, its consumption depends on several factors. This is the state of the whole organism as a whole, as well as the level of physical activity. With significant lecithin in the muscles increases, from which they become more enduring. With insufficient amount of this substance, the membranes of nerve fibers and cells are thinned, as a result of which there is a disruption of the work of the entire nervous system. With age, the level of this substance in the body decreases.

The positive properties of the substance lies in the fact that it has a good effect on brain activity, improves memory, lowers cholesterol and the level of harmful fatty acids that are in the blood, helps assimilate the necessary vitamins, it has a good effect on the activity of the liver, as well as the kidneys. In addition to all of the above, lecithin is important for intrauterine development of the child. It will be useful in the first few months after birth. Admission of this drug in the first year contributes to a good further development of memory, it determines the resistance to violations and the amount of memory for every adult. Lecithin, the harm from which is practically unknown, does not have strict contraindications.

Despite the fact that this substance is found in many products, soy lecithin is the most widely spread.

In medicine, it is used as a biologically active additive. The form of release is: lecithin in granules, in tablets, in edible gels, diluted liquids, in capsules.

Indications for use of this substance:

1. For prevention in old age.

2. Chronic forms of stomach diseases: gastritis, colitis, gastroduodenitis.

3. With diabetes. Under the influence of lecithin, the work of beta cells, on which the production of the necessary insulin depends, improves.

4. For the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Lecithin, whose harm is minimal in comparison with other drugs that affect this range of diseases, can be contraindicated only with individual intolerance. It is not recommended to take this product during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

It is relevant not only in medicine, but also in the food industry. There also found a place to use lecithin (its harm in food is not established). In confectionery production, the substance is added to reduce the viscosity of the chocolate when casting it into special shapes, and also when it is necessary to glaze the products.
