In a field or on a meadow, you can often see a tall plant with large leaves with catchy flowers. This meadow goatbreeder is known for its useful properties. Experienced gardeners grow it not only for decorative purposes, but also for eating, as well as preparing medicinal infusions and broths.

Description of the plant

This biennial plant belongs to the family of astroids and its appearance resembles a giant dandelion, reaching up to one meter in height. The branchy, pink-tinged peduncle of the goatbreeder is covered with linear-lanceolate bright green leaves with a bluish tint. In the flowering period, which begins in May and lasts for one month, large baskets with ligulate flowers of golden-yellow color appear on the plant. Then seeds are formed in their place with long tufts in the form of fluffy balls. For their similarity to a goat beard, and this plant received its name.

Despite the fact that the native land of the plant is the Mediterranean, in Russia, for a long time, a meadow goatbreed has been known. Its popular names sound like "oat root", "white root", "fucking beard". The plant has its own interesting features:

  • The flowers open to the sun at dawn, and already close at lunchtime in tightly compressed buds.
  • At the age of 3 or even 5 years the plant can start to bloom again, turning into perennial.

Peculiarities of growing

Kozloborodnik meadow is very unpretentious and does not need special care. Care of it is reduced to watering, loosening the soil, weeding weed and feeding. In the first year of life it is recommended to remove peduncles, not allowing the plant to blossom. Otherwise, the root will become too rigid and unfit for consumption. The remaining parts of the plant are covered with non-woven fabric, and they are perfectly preserved until the next spring. Kozloborodnik can grow well on any, even poor in composition and dry soils. Nevertheless, if you need to grow a juicy and delicious vegetable, plant it on fertile soil with the subsequent maintenance of its moisture.

Healing properties

The benefits of this plant for health have been known for a long time. Its roots contain a high concentration of a special substance of inulin, vital to diabetic patients. It is rich in plant and vitamins of the group PP and B, protein, fiber and vegetable proteins.

Decoction from the roots is prepared as follows: 10 grams of raw material pour a glass of water and cook for half an hour on a small fire. After this, leave to infuse for 2 hours and drain. Take cough and bronchitis as an expectorant, as a diuretic in diseases associated with the genitourinary system.

To prepare the infusion take a tablespoon of dried leaves kozloborodnika, pour a glass of boiling water and insist for 5 hours. You can take up to 6 times a day for one spoonful. Baths from the present are used for edema and rheumatism.
