July 3 - Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus. This is a joyful moment in the life not only of the country, but of every one of its inhabitants. He is joyful and at the same time sad. On this day, they recall the Great Victory of the Soviet people over fascism. During the war, more than 30% of the inhabitants of this country were killed. Do not forget about the dashing 90-ies, when the country was in turmoil and chaos.
The Role of Independence Day
Many peoples aspired and some of them continue to seek sovereignty. For the Republic of Belarus this freedom was given at a hard price. It was preceded by bloody wars, the change of political regimes.
History
в первую очередь ассоциируется со свободой от фашистских захватчиков. The Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is primarily associated with freedom from fascist invaders. On July 3, as a result of Operation Bagration, the capital of the Republic of Belarus, Minsk, was liberated.
During the period 1991-1996, Independence Day was celebrated on July 27. This number is dated to the Declaration on the Sovereignty of Belarus, signed in 1990.
From that day the country gained independence. But this could not happen if in 1944 Soviet soldiers did not drive the Germans west. After all, according to Hitler's plans, 75% of the population would be destroyed. The rest would turn into slaves. Therefore, in order to perpetuate the memory of the heroes-liberators, it was decided to establish another date.
The initiator of the holiday was the President of Belarus. At his suggestion in 1996, a nationwide referendum was held, according to which 88.18% of Belarusians voted to change the date of the holiday on July 3. с тех пор совпадает с днем освобождения столицы страны. The Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus has since coincided with the liberation of the country's capital.
A year before this significant date, a new state emblem and flag was chosen at the referendum.
July 3 is officially considered a public holiday.
Various festive events are held throughout the country. But with the greatest scope Independence Day is celebrated in Minsk.
Grand Parade

The Republic also does not enter into any confrontation. Moreover, Belarus has for some time been a peacemaking site in the settlement of conflicts in Ukraine.
In order to protect the borders of the country, the military industry is actively developing and modernizing. The Republic takes part in various international exercises.
After the collapse of the USSR, Belarus was one of the initiators of the creation of the CIS, in which it acted as a sovereign country.
