"Jeanne", the play. Theater of Nations

The performance was carried out by a recent GITIS graduate Ilya Rotenberg. "Jeanne" is a performance that continues the experimental work of the theater with young directors and new dramaturgy. Ilya Rothenberg in 2011 led the Lysva Drama Theater, where they were put Gogol's "Players". The production received the Grand Prix at the festival of theaters of small towns. "Jeanne" - the play, which is the second work of the director with the drama Pulinovich. The first was his play "How I Become ..." (Tomsk Theater of the Young Spectator).

In the play "Jeanne" actors are involved: Ingeborga Dapkunaite (in the main role), Ekaterina Shankina, Alexander Novin, Anna Gusarova, Andrei Fomin, Nadezhda Lumpova.

About the Eternal: the Story of a Woman

According to the director, "Jeanne" is a performance, the genre of which should be defined as a psychological drama, which goes back to the epic. The main heroine of the play Pulinovich, the director considers an absolutely epic character. Her story relates to eternal things, which concern many during centuries - love, family, jealousy, revenge, envy. "" Jeanne "is a performance that represents a woman's history: in every woman there is a certain mystery in which it would be interesting to understand," the director shared with the journalists. Such an attempt is presented in the play. The director tried to retell the story of Jeanne as he understands it.

A successful business woman has, at first glance, all the benefits that many only dream of. The viewer is invited to think: at what price was it extracted? What did I sacrifice for this? With what it remains in the end?

Plot

The genre of the play Yaroslav Pulinovich, which formed the basis for the play ("Next is a new day"), is defined as a melodrama with elements of farce. It tells about a certain lonely and determined business Jeanne, who managed to get through "dirt to the prince": she built her life from scratch, achieved a lot, but she did not find her happiness. For five years her relationship with the infantile Andrew, who is almost twice her age, continues. The heroine jealously guarded him. At some point, the complexed young man decides to start an independent life. He escapes from Jeanne to the careless and funny student Katya. But for young people it ends sadly - they are thrown out onto the street. Jeanne does not find anyone in return.

about the author

Yaroslav Pulinovich, despite her young age (she is not 30) - one of the most famous and sought-after Russian playwrights. A graduate of the Ekaterinburg Theater Institute. The first plays - "The Teacher of Chemistry", "The Carnival of cherished desires", "The Washers" - are on the short-list of the festival of dramaturgy "Eurasia", they are laureates of the "Debut" and "Voice of Generation" awards. Pulinovich is also a regular participant of the "Lyubimovka" and "New Drama" festivals. Plays playwright on the stage of theaters in England, Poland, Estonia, the United States, Ukraine and more than 40 theaters in Russia.

According to critics, the plays of Pulinovich differ from many other Russian dramas of the last generation in that they are built in perfect accordance with the theatrical canons. They invariably contain the psychological quality of images, the rapid development of intrigue, a meaning that is serious and understandable to the viewer. Perhaps, it is in these features lies the secret of its success.

Directing

Experts believe that in the play of the young director Ilya Rotenberg everything is thought out perfectly and works like a clock. Artist Polina Grishina, a student of the famous Dmitry Krymov, space is conceptually divided into black and white. The viewer is offered a world without halftones.

The first plan is occupied by the luxurious Jeanne apartment: marble floor, large bed and jacuzzi. The second one is occupied by the detachable little room of Andrey and Katya with her miserable situation. The action moves from episode to episode, all decisions work, nothing remains untapped. Metaphors are biting and laconic: for example, when beds are removed from bed, it turns into the grave of Jeanne's father. The action is built by the director, like a clip-editing, the frames in it change rather quickly, new episodes naturally grow from the previous ones.

Changed final

In the finale of the play, Andrei with his wife and child, left without money, shelter and work, come to Jeanne. At the sight of the baby, the heroine's heart melts. She leaves the young ones to spend the night. The reader remains with the hope that the "new day" is waiting for everyone.

But for the production of the Theater of Nations, the drama rewritten the ending, radically changed its meaning. In the play, Zhanna asks her friend, a powerful deputy, how to quickly deprive someone of parental rights. And gets the answer that this is nothing complicated.

She decides to steal the child. This step becomes for her the peak of all her ambitions, the last desire to be realized. Jeanne acts with all the uncompromising heroine of antiquity. Surviving the death of female love, she seeks revenge in her mother's love. New play finals play Pulinovich on a global level. Her character is matched by the scale of the actress, who performs the main role.

Dapkunaite: external fragility combined with internal strength

Of the several plays proposed by the director to choose from, they decided to stage the play "Jeanne". The Theater of Nations has stopped on this option. Ingeborga Dapkunaite was invited to the main role by Yevgeny Mironov, the artistic director of the theater.

This choice, according to the director, is very accurate. The participation of this wonderful actress gives the play a special new shade.

The playwright Ya. Pulinovich believes that Dapkunaite has the image necessary for its image: in it, external fragility is combined with inner pressure and strength.

Actress and viewer

Film actress Dapkunaite does not need a presentation to the domestic or the world viewer. Teatralam would be useful to learn that the movie star has been playing in the theater for a long time and a lot. In the 80 years she worked with the famous E. Nyakroshuis, the Lithuanian director who founded the theater "Meno Fortas". She performed on the stage of European theaters, as well as in Britain and America.

Actress and role

According to critics, Ingeborga Dapkunaite in this performance is acting clearly and swiftly: she does not allow any excess gesture, no extraordinary details, or accidental intonations.

Her heroine combines tenderness and rapacious grasp, openness to the world and severity, iron stiffness and vulnerability. She is truly charming, resourceful, cunning, and graceful. In it actor's mischief and female coquetry are combined with depth and thorough psychologism. As a result, her Jeanne - not just a character or an actress. This is a real live person, to whom the viewer believes from the first to the last word.

The only ones who should not recommend this performance are the connoisseurs of dubious, risky experiments. This is not the case in this paper.
