Jarmusch Jim, an American film director, screenwriter, musician, was born on January 22, 1953 in the small town of Akron, Ohio. After graduating from school in 1971, he entered the Faculty of Journalism at the University of Chicago. After Jim Jarmusch was transferred to the department of English literature, he had to continue his education already in Paris. In France, the future director and "sick" cinema, which later becomes for him the meaning of life.

A year later, Jarmusch Jim returned to America and again transferred, this time to Columbia University, where he was soon awarded a bachelor's degree in literature. Then he moved to New York and entered the university, at the "Cinema School" department. There, fate brought Jarmusch with the famous director Nicholas Ray, for whom Jim later became a faithful assistant.

Director Ray was at that time sick with cancer, and one day he was visited by the idea of creating a movie, which will reflect the entire process of his departure from life, long and painful. Filming began, and since for Jarmusch it was the first cinematic experience, the film about the death of a friend became his debut. "Lightning above the water" - this name received this film-requiem. The production was also attended by director Wim Wenders.

"Attempt at writing"

At about the same time Jarmusch Jim began to shoot his first author's film called "Leave without end." The picture with a microscopic budget of 15 thousand dollars went into the rental and received good reviews.

His second film "Stranger than in Paradise" Jarmusch Jim created in 1984. The picture was related to his thesis work on Hungarian emigrants. The film, shot in the genre of chronicling documentary, was called "The New World".

Director's style

Initially, Jim Jarmusch, whose films differed markedly from other films shot in Hollywood, was a supporter of the so-called independent cinema. He shoots in his manner a few more films, among which are "The Mysterious Train" and "Beyond the Law." These two films, together with "Stranger than in Paradise," formed a kind of trilogy that represents America through the eyes of a foreigner.

In 1986, Dzharmush released a six-minute video "Coffee and Cigarettes" with the participation of two popular actors, Stephen Wright and Roberto Benigni, who drink coffee and smoke cigarettes for a quiet, intimate conversation. It turned out a ready-made commercial, but Jim Jarmusch did not sell it, but based on a series of 11 novels in which famous actors communicate for coffee and cigarettes.

Mystery and parody

Jarmusch is known for his ability to compile a compilation film from several subjects. For example, the movie "Night on Earth", released in 1991, consists of five small stories on the theme "Night, city, taxi." The film tells about five cities in different places of the planet, about five random encounters, and all this is presented with a kind, slightly sad humor.

In 1995, the director made the film "Dead Man" in the genre of a mystical western. The film was not properly evaluated, and only a few years later at the Cannes Film Festival the critics gave a positive response.

In the film "The Way of the Samurai" Jarmusch is parodied by gangsters. This film was the first swallow in a series of motion pictures on a Japanese theme. Their work on the Land of the Rising Sun was filmed and presented to the audience after Jim Jarmusch Edward Zwick, Rob Marshall, Quentin Tarantino, Sofia Coppola. This fact suggests that the directors of independent cinema, which is Jarmusch, often become pioneers of new solutions in cinematic art.

In search of a new

In 2005, the director began to lean towards the mainstream, his marginal protagonists gave way to successful individuals. The film "Broken Flowers" became a vivid example of a new style. The main character, a successful programmer Don Johnston (played by Bill Murray), is trying to find the alleged mother of his unexpectedly announced son. For this he remembers all his mistresses and begins to systematically visit them. For "Broken Flowers" Jarmusch received the Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival.
