What is parthenogenesis? It is the ability of a female to give birth to a new generation without the participation of a male sexual partner. This does not mean that men are not needed at all, they are, of course, important. Parthenogenesis is not a method of asexual reproduction, as in some plants (budding, for example). But if it happens that the female for some reason could not find a partner for mating and the fertilization of the egg did not happen, she could still produce a full-fledged offspring without his participation. This ability provides the species with a very good survival rate. When the number falls, the females can shortly replenish the population and continue the genus. This is the essence of parthenogenesis.

Another important feature of this multiplication is the regulation of the ratio of the number of females and males. So, for example, bees from unfertilized eggs appear drones (males), and from fertilized - working individuals, all of which are feminine.

Types of parthenogenesis

What is parthenogenesis and how can it occur in certain animals? In some species it is considered the main method of reproduction (obligate). For other forms, it is cyclic, that is, the offspring periodically appear from unfertilized ova, but more often with the participation of a male. An optional, or emergency method of reproduction provides the species with survival in the most difficult living conditions, that is the essence of parthenogenesis for them. These cases are, rather, an exception, because usually these animals adhere to bisexual reproduction.

What is parthenogenesis? This is a process in which a parent egg, being unfertilized, begins to evolve to later turn into an adult full-fledged living being. Parthenogenesis can vary significantly in different species. So, for example, reproduction by parthenogenesis of bees differs significantly from the reproduction of other insects, say, ants.

Knowledge of what parthenogenesis is and how it occurs has greatly influenced the development of science and has given impetus to the emergence of certain directions in the industry. Thus, scientists learned that parthenogenesis is triggered by a certain silkworm after exposure to certain temperatures. This greatly accelerated the process of breeding these insects.

What is the essence of parthenogenesis is well known to beekeepers and silk producers, many invertebrates use this method. Immaculate conception is often practiced by some species of lizards, fish, the process is well known to representatives of the plant world, there are even parthenogenetic turkeys.

Representatives of science are working on studying this feature, without waste. Many attempts were made to start parthenogenesis in warm-blooded animals. It is unfortunately impossible to cite examples, as some have had cell growth and embryo development, but it has not reached the final stage. Interest from the side of medicine is also considerable.
