Information management: concept, basic approaches and types of companies

Information management is a technology, the main components of which are:

- staff;

- documents, software and technical means of process support.

Recently, this type of management is becoming popular due to the transition of society to a new, post-industrial stage of development.

Of great importance are information systems in management, which must necessarily be normatively approved. They are an organizationally ordered set of arrays of documents and technologies with the use of computer and communication tools that implement the system of information processes.

Information systems are designed to store, process, search, distribute, transmit and provide data. Therefore, it is necessary to consider in more detail the features of their formation and functioning.

Information management in the organization is developed in accordance with the following provisions.

First, it is carried out only within a particular firm.

Secondly, information becomes an independent factor of production, lying in the decision-making process.

Thirdly, information management is relevant not only to information, but also to all information work of the organization. Moreover, it is a broader and broader concept than simple document management.

Information management is a specialty of managing the activities for the formation and application of data in the interests of the company. Its main goal is to effectively ensure the development of the company by regulating various types of activities.

There is a different interpretation of the notion of "information management" in different countries.

In the German school, it is understood as a set of goals and objectives of management, which deals with the sphere of formation and use of information resources.

The English school treats IT management as a set of management tasks that are related to the information system.

The Russian definition of information management includes a wide range of management tasks, from the solution of which the achievement of the objectives of a specific enterprise will depend. This is achieved through the coordinated and effective management of information resources and technologies of the enterprise.

In this type of management in accordance with the above parameters, it is possible to characterize two types of enterprises.

In companies that have a high level of application of information management, a number of indicators are singled out:

  • The management of the organization is able to explain the complete procedure for its organization;

  • Top management takes a direct part in the main procedures and the adoption of strategic orders;

  • There are clear business goals in order to invest in this sphere;

  • There is a dynamic in decreasing the changes in management.

In companies with a low level of application of information management, we can distinguish the following series of indicators:

  • Top management such management is perceived as an industry that has a low return on investment;

  • Information management in this form becomes an obstacle to implementing new company strategies;

  • Contradictory or slow action in IT decision-making;

  • Top management is unable to explain the main and current procedures within this management;

  • The company's projects in IT never fit into a budget or time frame;
