If you use this site, you must change your password

A couple of weeks ago there were hacking attacks and hacking several popular email services, and in this connection, you most likely changed a couple of important passwords - at least, you should do it. However, now, apparently, you will have to repeat the procedure because of one site.

The stolen password

It turns out that about 117 million logins and passwords of users of the professional social network LinkedIn were stolen, and now they are sold on the black web market. This information became available to the public after one of the hackers reported that the data was obtained during the hacking of this social network in 2012. Then it was believed that 6.5 million users were stolen. However, now it turns out that their number can be several times larger. Director of Information Security, Corey Scott on the official blog of the social network confirmed this information, and also said that the data was most likely actually stolen back in 2012. He added: "We are taking immediate steps to annul the passwords that were stolen, and we will soon contact the affected users so that they can change their passwords for new ones."

Safety at stake

It is worth noting that all users of this social network were recommended to change passwords. Moreover, you can activate two-step verification, thanks to which in the case if an attempt is made to go from an unusual place in your account, you will be sent an SMS message. In 2012, the social network after the hacking was severely criticized because of the failure to provide sufficient level of security for users. Unlike most large sites, LinkedIn did not use the so-called salt technique, the essence of which is that a random set of characters is added to the passwords stored on the site.
