If there is no suburban area: the cultivation of tomatoes in the open ground is replaced by paying on the balcony

If you have a dacha or a house in the village, then for sure you organize the growing of tomatoes every year in the open ground or in a greenhouse. But what about those who do not have the opportunity to plant beds? It's very simple, to get them on an ordinary balcony. Of course, a huge garden will not be planted, but something can all be so. For example, tomatoes. It turns out that growing tomatoes in the open field and greenhouses - not the latest methods. The balcony is an ideal option for those who instead of a summer season are forced to sit in an apartment.

So, where do you start growing tomatoes at home? To begin with, it is necessary to prepare seeds for planting seedlings (work should begin in late February, early March). To do this, they need to be folded in a rag, you can use gauze, moisten with water and wrap in a plastic bag. Packed seeds should be placed in a warm place, for example, on a battery. The cloth must always be wet, so periodically it will have to be sprinkled with water. This way of seeding seeds allows to get shoots after two or three days.

Then the seeds need to be planted. For planting seeds you can use flower pots, cups or even ordinary cans. The soil is suitable for purchase for planting flowers or universal. Each seedlings are planted one by one sprouted seed, which is laid in the ground to a depth of not more than 3 mm. Containers with seeds are covered with glass or covered with a film, after which they are put in a warm place. When the seeds germinate, the film or glass should be removed, and the plants themselves should be placed closer to the light. The ideal option is, of course, the window sill. Further care for seedlings of tomatoes is reduced to irrigation and the introduction of mineral fertilizers.

Cultivation of tomatoes in the open field begins somewhere in the middle of May. At the same time, it is necessary to transplant into more spacious containers and those plants that will live on the balcony. Transplanting tomatoes can be done in large flower pots or plastic buckets. In the latter, it is necessary to carefully make a few holes in the bottom to drain the water. Tomatoes must be transplanted carefully, maximally saving their root system. In each bucket or pot planted one plant, which must be watered.

There comes a time when the tomatoes can already be taken out on the balcony. The weather outside the window is stable, the sun shines well, and the balcony is warm, as in a greenhouse. That's only with the removal of plants to rush is not worth it. After planting, you need to wait a few days until the tomatoes are well rooted. After that, you can safely take out on the balcony. To ensure that plants receive more light and do not stretch for its lack, buckets or pots must be placed on stools, a table or other supports. Since the spring of the night is still quite cold, then the tomatoes for this time of day still need to be brought into the room.

Growing tomatoes in the open ground and greenhouses can not do without such a procedure as tying. In balcony conditions without this, too, do not do. To do this it is necessary to ensure that the branches that will soon be covered with small, enlarged tomatoes are not broken. Cultivation of tomatoes on the balcony excludes such a process as artificial pollination of flowers, as tomatoes are plants self-pollinating.

As they grow, tomatoes will give side shoots, the so-called stepchildren. In order for the harvest to be higher, you must leave one stepchild, which is located no lower than the seventh leaf. The rest are to be removed. Experienced vegetable growers recommend to leave no more than four bundles of ovaries on one stem, and also pinch the top of the head.

Well, now for certain, many have been convinced that growing tomatoes on the balcony is not such a difficult task. But the harvest, with the skillful and proper care, you can collect a very large!
