Hydroponics - what is it?

To ensure a good growth of plants, it is necessary to periodically prepare land mixtures for their transplantation. But not all lovers of indoor floriculture have at this time and patience. This problem is perfectly solved hydroponics. What it is? The method of growing a crop is not in the soil, but in a special nutrient solution on a water basis. It contains all the nutrients necessary for plants. To realize such growing, a substrate made of fine expanded clay is used, which perfectly retains water. It can be replaced with perlite and vermiculite. There are also fillers made of glass or granules of polyethylene. Ion-exchange substrates are very interesting. They supply ions to the roots of plants.

Characteristics of the filler

Hydroponics is, above all, a substrate. The main qualities that the filler should possess:

- it should be well wetted with a solution and let in air;
- be neutral for the substances that make up the nutrient fluid (do not react with them);
- have a neutral or slightly acidic environment.

Multiple use of the substrate is one of the main advantages that hydroponics possesses. What does it mean? Duration of filler use: quartz and granite - up to 10, from expanded clay or perlite - up to 6, from vermiculite - up to 2 years.

Rules for growing on hydroponics

In a pot or other container, you need to pour in the nutrient solution and place the roots of the plant there. Water periodically replenish, and the composition with fertilizers is replaced from time to time, as it is depleted. When hydroponics is used, the equipment must consist of 2 different pots. In a small-sized container, more holes must be made. It places the roots of the plant, it is covered with gravel or other material. After this, the smaller pot is placed in a large container with a nutrient solution. Its level should be such that the solution covers the roots by no more than two thirds. When it is changed, a larger pot must be rinsed, and then again put a small container in it and pour in a new solution.
For the root cuttings in the water, optimal hydroponics will be the optimal way of vegetation (what is this method, described above). If it is necessary to translate into cultivation without soil the culture that grew in the ground, then certain rules are observed. Carefully remove the plant, without damaging its roots, then placed in a container with warm water. We must wait until the soil softens, gently rinse the roots in the water.

If they are damaged, the plant is placed in a solution of activated carbon for 2 days (10 tablets for 1 liter of water).

The final stage

In the inner pot filled with a carefully planted crop, spreading the roots. Then it is installed in a container of a larger size, into which liquid is poured. If the plant is transplanted from the soil, then for several days it should be in water, which is then gradually replaced with nutrient solution. As you can see, hydroponics is not that complicated.
