Hydrangea room: features of care and reproduction

The bulk of varieties of hydrangeas is designed for growing on flowerbeds and in gardens, and not at home.

However, there are also indoor plant species, such as a garden or large-leaf hydrangea. The native land of flowers is Japan, from which they were brought to Europe. In nature it is a perennial shrub that has large spherical inflorescences, which when blossoming become pale green, which later transforms into white, blue or red.
Hortensia room large leaf is not suitable for planting in the open ground, because unlike other varieties, it is very fond of heat and can not overwinter in the open air. For this reason, it is used as a pot plant. Spreading forms were obtained with lilac, pink and white flowers. The leaves of hydrangea are oval, having notches along the perimeter, reach 10-15 centimeters in length. Inflorescences are presented in the form of a ball up to 20 cm in diameter.

Hortensia room: care

Cultivation of hydrangeas is of no particular difficulty if one follows certain rules. The plant needs diffuse bright light, although it tolerates fine and partial shade. Despite the fact that street hydrangeas are well tolerated by negative temperatures, some varieties should be sheltered for the winter. Hortensia room perfectly feels in a dry room, in which the air temperature does not drop below 5 degrees Celsius.

In summer, when there is rapid growth, flowers should be abundantly watered with soft water, in which there is no lime. For these purposes, rain or melt water is suitable. During flowering hydrangeas should be fed every two weeks with mineral fertilizers for home colors.

The best environment for the plant is open air. Hortensia room is no exception. In a warm time pots with flowers must be taken out on the balcony.

In order to get mature shoots by autumn, in the period of maximum growth, the lateral processes (stepchildren) and the basal shoot are removed. In the autumn period, watering should be reduced, which will allow ripening of the apical buds, of which next year new home flowers will unfold. Hortensia room should remain in the open air until the leaves begin to fall off. After this, it should be returned to the room where the plant will winter.

If flowers do not enter the house, then in any case they need to ensure peace for three months. In this case, hydrangeas are only watered to prevent drying of the roots.

To get early flowering, hydrangeas in February are transplanted into pots in a new earth. For the substrate take heather, clay, turf and sand or a mixture of deciduous and peat soil with sand. In the same period, the plant is also pruned. Weak stems are removed, leaving only up to 5 strong shoots. This is done to obtain large inflorescences. With the proper care of the bloom, the hydrangea room begins in April-May.

Hydrangea: reproduction

Plant division is produced in the spring by cuttings from root shoots. You can also breed by dividing the bush. Cuttings are planted in containers filled with a mixture of coarse-grained sand and peat. They are covered with glass jars. To avoid decaying the roots, do not drench the soil abundantly. After rooting, lasting about 3 weeks, the plant is transplanted to a permanent place in the pot.

Diseases of hydrangeas

The culture is resistant to disease, but it is very sensitive to the violation of irrigation rules. Lack of water in the summer leads to the wilting of flowers and leaves, the plant is very difficult to restore. Excessive moisture in winter leads to decay of roots and loss of plants.
