HPV in men - ways of infection and treatment
Papillomavirus infection is a disease for which skin and mucous membrane damage is inherent. Its causative agent is human papillomavirus (HPV). It causes chronic inflammation, resulting in the formation of papillomas.
Recently, the diagnosis of "HPV" in men has become very common. According to statistics, 13% of the stronger sex have this disease, especially those who have a very active sex life. By the way, men are the main carriers of this disease.
Ways of infection
HPV in men, which causes the formation of genital warts, is transmitted with unprotected sex or with oral sex. But there is also a domestic way of infection - for example, when visiting the pool or using general hygiene products. And in general, HPV is transmitted by contacting any household item that is infected with a virus, with the affected skin area.
How to recognize HPV in men?
Diagnosis of the disease is not particularly difficult, since the presence of papillomas speaks for itself. But to clarify the diagnosis is assigned to the analysis of HPV in men.
Polymerase chain reaction is the most common method that determines the presence of the virus in any material under investigation (part of the condyloma, scraping from the urethra). But sometimes this way of detecting a virus can show false positive results. But this method of diagnostics, like Digene-Test, recognizes the presence of HPV in men with high accuracy. In addition, using it, you can determine the type of virus, as well as its ability to provoke cancer.
Treatment of the disease
At the moment, there are no such schemes for which HPV treatment is performed in men. Basically, the doctor prescribes taking medications that help the body fight the virus, in other words, the patient needs to take antiviral medications. They can be in the form of rectal suppositories, creams, tablets and injections. But it must be taken into account that none of the medicinal products guarantees 100% cure for the disease. Therefore, the HPV virus in men will remain in the body in any case.
Speaking about the treatment of external signs of the disease, it should be borne in mind that if within 2-3 years of age the papillomas do not pass independently, they resort to surgical intervention.
Prevention
Since recently, cases of infection with the HPV virus have increased, and the mortality from diseases caused by it has increased many times, experts came to this problem with all seriousness. They developed a vaccine that protects the human body not only from penetrating HPV, but also from the consequences caused by it. This vaccination is already included in the list of mandatory in many countries. In Russia, it is not yet mandatory, but most experienced specialists recommend carrying out this vaccination.
Also, to prevent the infection of HPV, a man should abandon unprotected sexual acts, especially if he does not have a permanent partner. Although it is not necessary to rely on a condom alone, after all, as mentioned above, HPV can be transmitted through common household items.
