How to properly paint on glass with stained-glass paints

To date, painting on glass can be done with acrylic and stained-glass paints. These two directions essentially differ from each other not only by the material used, by the stages of work, but also by the end result. First of all, let's look at the types of stained glass paints, how to correctly paint on glass with stained-glass paints.

Types of Stained Glass Paints

Stained-glass paints for painting are transparent and bright. They are of two types:

  • Fired.
  • Non-combustible.

If it is desirable to get a strong coating, and thus the glass product will withstand firing in the furnace, then it is possible to use fired stained-glass paints, and in case the product is thin and does not withstand firing, accordingly, it is necessary to use non-burning stained-glass paints.

How to paint on glass with stained-glass paints

In order to properly do this work, we also need a contoured paint - an outliner, or a special marker pen, rubber gloves.

Step-by-step instructions for painting on glass

  • We choose a glass vase, which we will paint with stained-glass paints.
  • Wash it with a liquid for washing dishes and dry it with a towel, then - degrease (alcohol).
  • We transfer the contours of the drawing you like to the vase with a pencil or felt-tip pen for painting.
  • In order to properly paint on the glass with stained-glass paints, you should make sure that all the outlines of the selected pattern (the outlines of the colors) are closed, otherwise the colors will mix and the work will go to waste.
  • Outlineer draw a relief line along the contour of the picture, its thickness should not exceed 0.5 - 0.7 mm. It should also be noted that if the outliner is kept high, the paint (contour) will not fall according to the pattern, and if the outliner is kept low, the contour will lie abruptly, so you have to choose the average distance between the surface of the vase and the outliner.
  • Take paint for painting on glass and fill them with a drawing (one color, making sure that all contours of the picture are closed).
  • When the paint (non-combustible) dries, to luster the product is varnished.
  • If firing paints were used, the product should be burned in the oven (see the paint instruction for the firing temperature).

How is the painting on the glass acrylic paints

Painting with acrylic paints is also beautiful, which are opaque, they are easy to mix, getting beautiful shades, semitones and unusual colors. It looks especially nice when you make a painting on the glass - stained glass in the style of one stroke (in one stroke), in this case take two colors (at the same time) and in one case put on the surface of the stained glass: get intricate leaves, curls, lines. After drying the paint, the product must be covered with acrylic lacquer (for the stability of paint and gloss). With this technique, there is no need to use a contour.

Conclusion

As you can see, painting on glass with stained-glass paints, as well as acrylic paints is a simple matter, and does not require special skills, of course, in order for the painting to succeed, you need to be patient and work with paints carefully.
