How to make a self-made compressor for an aquarium

If you decide to decorate your apartment and start aquarium fish, then you can not do without well-designed aeration. The water in the aquarium should be flowing, because the fish breathe oxygen, which is in their habitat. If water is not updated in time, it will affect the health of the marine inhabitants, they will gradually begin to fall asleep or grab the air from the surface. In this case, you will help self-made compressor, which is quite easy to assemble at home. For the manufacture of such a device, it is necessary to purchase special kits that are designed for this purpose, or to adapt the parts available for its manufacture.

The resulting device can be much more efficient than purchased devices, it will be easy to repair if necessary and, of course, will be much cheaper. The homemade compressor consists of a low-revving electric motor, a flywheel with an eccentric that converts the rotational motion of the shaft into a progressive, a pump that pumps air into the aquarium, and a rubber tube with an air diffuser. Of course, you will also need the enclosure itself, where all the details will be attached.

We begin the assembly from the installation of the electric motor. It is necessary to screw it tightly to the base of the housing and achieve complete absence of vibration. The homemade compressor should turn out to be noiseless, the monotonous sound of operating mechanisms clearly does not have to relax near the fish tank. Mount the flywheel and connect it to the pump. The device can be checked by briefly switching on the electric motor. Pay attention to the smooth running of the flywheel and pump. If the homemade compressor works normally, you can finish the installation by installing a protective cover, and attach the rubber tubes to drain air from the device.

Leave the self-made compressor in operation for several hours, of course, under supervision. If there are no extraneous noises and a suspicious smell, we can assume that the device has been tested. It is recommended to ground all metal static parts. Then the self-made compressor will become completely safe.

Such a mechanism can run smoothly for a long time. It is much more reliable than purchased devices and due to the greater engine power it has a good resource of both strength and maintainability. A homemade aquarium compressor will provide your fish with the necessary air supply and push the need for premature water replacement.

To operate the entire device, it is enough to have an engine power of 50 W with a speed of no more than 900 rpm. The homemade compressor for the aquarium is quite economical, and increasing the engine power is inadvisable. An increase in the speed of the electric motor is also not necessary, since in this case the wear of the pump and all moving parts of the device will increase. It is necessary to adjust the engine shaft speed so that sufficient air is supplied to the aquarium, and there is no noise or vibration.
