Most workshops working on metal require a forge horn. Without such equipment, you can not do with work not only with cold, but with hot forging. The necessary equipment can be purchased, but its cost is very high: the minimum price is several tens of thousands of rubles. For this reason, many workshop owners decide to make a gas horn with their own hands.

As fuel for the hearth, stone or charcoal, petroleum products or gas can be used. Gas forge horn is the best option for workshop equipment because of the low cost of fuel and its availability. The efficiency of such a furnace is high, and it can be connected not only to the main gas pipeline, but also to cylinders with fuel.

Processing of metal products requires their heating before changing the color and acquiring a light orange hue. Similar changes correspond to a temperature of 1000-1200 ° C. The metal brought to this state is easily subjected to deformation under the influence of percussion instruments.

The advantage of such a construction of the hearth is the possibility of heating different parts on the pallet, and their dimensions are limited only to the side racks.

Burner

It is not a separate type of horn, because it is its component part. Its body is most often made of stainless steel; One end of the pipe is closed with a removable cover or brewed. On the other hand, a metal mesh with a suitable diameter is installed - it depends on the desired flare.

On the side of the closed end of the pipe, a pipe is welded, along which a fuel mixture will be fed. It is attached to a pipe of smaller diameter, through which gas is supplied from the compressor.

The impeller is placed to enrich the fuel mixture with air.

The main difference between a gas horn of this type and the others is the form of thrust. In this design it is forced and is carried out by means of a fan. This option is optimal, because it allows you to ventilate the entire room.

The furnace is made in cubic form of refractory bricks. Homemade gas horn for household needs is usually small - its sides rarely exceed one meter in length. An umbrella is placed on top - a metal cover made of a sheet of metal 4 mm thick. The internal volume must be completely hermetic, otherwise the efficiency of the furnace will be low.

How to make a gas horn with your own hands

The main requirement for the design is ease and practicality. Thanks to these qualities, the equipment can be easily moved from place to place.

To achieve the desired result, the gas horn is folded from refractory blocks - in their role is either a refractory brick or a so-called fireclay brick .

The process of how to make a gas horn, consists of several stages:

  1. Fireproof blocks or bricks are prepared.
  2. The body of the hearth is created - the number of parts used can vary depending on the complexity and size of the chosen structure.
  3. Handle the body with a hacksaw or any other tool.
  4. Slots between individual blocks or bricks should not be - all elements should fit as close as possible to each other.
  5. From the half of the brick or block in the front part of the structure a small threshold is created, which makes it possible to maintain a high temperature in the furnace.
  6. A small rectangular opening is cut in the rear part, which will serve for ventilation. In addition, this cutout will allow you to work with long metal blanks.
  7. A hole is cut in the side wall along the diameter of the gas burner.

The gas horn after the described manipulations can be considered complete. For its operation, only a gas burner is required and the entire device is tested in practice.

The main part of the furnace is a gas burner - it creates the temperature necessary for processing metals. Masters are most often made of stainless steel burners, using a pipe welded from one end and covered with a metal mesh from the other.

The diameter of the hole is selected individually, depending on what force should be the flame. An additional pipe is fed to the burner, through which a fuel mixture is supplied. Use the ready bugle only after the burner operation has been adjusted.

Blacksmith forge from a bucket

Create a forge horn at home can be made from improvised materials - for example, a conventional bucket.

Such an oven is created quite simply: holes are made in the walls, the inner surface of the metal is covered with ceramic wool, capable of withstanding a temperature of over 1200 degrees. Since the bucket has a conical shape, it must be properly placed, for which the legs are installed.

In the middle part of the hearth there is a hole for the burner, in the bottom a vent is cut. Fireclay bricks with increased fire resistance are placed on the bottom. Finished equipment is often covered with a layer of heat-resistant paint.

  1. Cutting a small hole in the back wall of the furnace will improve ventilation. In addition, this cut-out allows you to heat metal blanks of great length.
  2. The forge horn is placed on a special metal stand or table, which makes working with it more convenient. Height is selected by the master individually.
  3. If the forge workshop is working with blanks of different sizes and shapes, it is advisable to install several horns of different dimensions at once. They are placed near each other, and with the help of flexible hoses, gas and air are supplied. This design solution allows quick reconnection of the burners.
  4. On each gas pipeline there should be a stop valve. To this end, most commonly used conventional valves - they provide a smoother adjustment, in contrast to the spherical counterparts.
