How to make a chest yourself

In small apartments, each storage for things is very valued. However, even he wants to be stylish, creative, so that it inevitably fits into the interior.

Today we offer you an exclusive option - try to make a real "grandmother's" chest - functional and elegant. It will perfectly transform your apartment, become the object of your pride and the envy of the guests.

How to make a chest to meet these high requirements? It's quite easy! The main thing is to have imagination, some free time and the desire to create a unique thing. So, to make a wonderful chest yourself, you will need special automatic and measuring tools, workplace, material blanks, fasteners, glue, grinding machine (this is more for pros, the beginner will be able to do without it).

First step

Before you make the material blanks, decide on the dimensions of your future joinery. For our master class, we built a chest with our own hands the size of 28x23x441 cm.

Second phase

Gather all the materials and tools that might come in handy. Whatman, DSP of the right size, plywood or MDF, the thickness of which is 1.5-2 centimeters, a simple pencil, electric jigsaw, drill, screwdriver, about 50 self-cutters for wood with a diameter of 0.4 cm, furniture loops, as well as a rubber or felt seal and glue.

The third stage

Prepare yourself a table for work. The ideal option will be a professional workbench, but even 2 slingshots with plywood will do. The main thing is for you to be comfortable, all the tools were at hand, but did not interfere with making a trunk by yourself. So, let's get started.

Create a trunk by our own hands

Draw a diagram of your future store on the sheet of Whatman. On a sheet of plywood, MDF or chipboard, mark the pencil of the chest wall with the pencil, using the dimensions from the picture on the sheet of paper. Cut out the resulting blanks with a jig saw. Now, mark on them 4 points equidistant from each other for the holes. They should be located 1 centimeter from the edge of the sidewall. Now drill 4 holes on each side of the transverse sidewalls with a drill. Take a 4 mm diameter drill bit. That the heads of screws do not stick out and do not spoil the general view of the chest, make holes for the caps with a depth of 1.5-2 mm. Now it's time to connect the longitudinal sidewalls with the transverse by means of screws and a screwdriver. Cut the bottom of the chest in the same way as you joined the walls. Note that the side faces must match the current dimensions of the resulting box. Here comes the turn of the lid. It should be the same size as the bottom. Put it on the hinges and fix with the product. Using sandpaper, sand the resulting chest. Now it is left to paint and varnish.

Precautionary measures

When working with power tools, observe safety precautions, use special safety goggles. When painting, be sure to ventilate the room and remember that the compounds for these purposes are very flammable.
